I will probably head to the airport whenever the group does... I will enquire about 'fly ahead' when I check in. If that works I may leave at a similar time, otherwise I will force myself to having some vino in the lounge. I suspect we will have a good quorum in the lounge at OOL throughout the afternoon.

Like ewing, I'm flying out on QF, if I can manage a guesting great, if not, I'll survive (just )

The bus is ~55 minutes from OOL to HSP (Cavill) and with a Go card costing $5.43 ($7.90 for cash). With four or more a Taxi may be better value.
For some the Go-card that weekend is free! ;)

Not quite. Use the Go-card 9 times and the 10th use and onward is free.

It makes my commute to OOL cost nothing for the 9 returns OOL-SYD I booked next year.

How're you going to get from the train station in the morning, would you like me to pick you up? :D

I am working on it. I was having a look at schedules and the first train gets in at 7:34am so was hoping someone may be around at that time. I may also have a lift on the way down but not sure about that one yet.

I was going to hire a car but would need to hire it for 2 days and I have a function on Saturday night and I am going to drink and I also want to have a drink or 2 at the BBQ without having to worry about driving later.

Well let me know. Have roughly the same thoughts on a drink or two at the BBQ and questionable driving afterwards.

Is the golf course Royal Pines? According to QR Translink I can get there at 7:49am if out on the first train from Central and change to bus at Nerang.

I shall let you know what is happening.

Yes, the golf course is Royal Pines.

Have you been in contact with MAX_1, wonder if he'll be able to make it to golf :)

Regarding special guests... Derek Baines will attend the AFF dinner on Saturday 27 October. Derek Baines is a senior leader within Qantas Loyalty and is responsible for the proposed Frequent Flyer partnership with Emirates. Previously Derek led the Qantas sales team in Queensland, and he has held other senior commercial roles within Qantas including General Manager Sales Development Australia, General Manager SME Sales, Commercial Manager Asia and Marketing Manager Japan. Derek has had over twenty years of experience with Qantas.

The “Red Roo” whom many of you will know from AFF discussion posts, will join us for the BBQ on Sunday 28 October.

At this stage I've received payments for 7 out of the 20 who have RSVP'd for the Saturday night dinner. PM's and text messages were sent at the start of the week.

If you'd like to come but haven't previously RSVP'd there is space available. Just make a note here or send me a PM ;)

The Red Roo, or A Red Roo ?? :p

The current Red Roo?

In Brisbane for AFF Gathering #4 we had the inaugural golf challenge, but this was sadly missing last year in Canberra under AFF Gathering #5. Luckily the Gold Coast has lots of golf courses and a 8:24am tee time at RACV Royal Pines Resort has been arranged for this years continuation of the golf tournament.

Those who have indicated they'd like to participate, the price is $55 for 18 holes, inclusive of buggy hire. Clubs can be hired and I do have some spares.

Is there a 9 hole alternative for scrubbers like myself?

I just noticed this and it is not quite correct. The inaugural AFF golf challenge was a few years back at Jindalee. So this would make it the 3rd AFF golf challenge.

on second thought, I've moved myself into meriton on southport. Apparently the rates over there are cheaper than at QT and i can earn miles on A3.

Nooo go back to the QT. We had a truly fantastic stay at the QT Gold Coast. Super fun, interesting and trendy hotel. Lobby bar gets happening on a Sat night. And I don't normally enjoy hotel brekky as i find them exceedingly generic but brekky at their in house resto Bazaar was fab! The strawberry and rhubarb jam was totally to die for! It's now our default choice of hotel when on the GC.

I already have you down for the 18, but we'll probably play a Stableford to give everyone a chance ;)

Quite correct, and the trophy represents that... and I hope to have it back for the Do!

You should definitely come to AFF6 then and steal some ideas from your competition ;)

Who works out the handicaps and is everyone honest?

My golfing ability best resembles that of a hacker at the best of times. I think 36 would be a fair handicap. ;)

To be fair, for the AFF challenge scratch wins as that has the most meaning. And if you want to hand out prizes then give them to the handicap winner and runner up. And the only fair way to workout a handicap on the day is using Callaway system or the 36 system which gets used in the UK quite a lot. Both are very fair.
