Who works out the handicaps and is everyone honest?

My golfing ability best resembles that of a hacker at the best of times. I think 36 would be a fair handicap. ;)

To be fair, for the AFF challenge scratch wins as that has the most meaning. And if you want to hand out prizes then give them to the handicap winner and runner up. And the only fair way to workout a handicap on the day is using Callaway system or the 36 system which gets used in the UK quite a lot. Both are very fair.

The Golf and Sports manager will be along on the day to sort out the numbers ;)

I know I wont win regardless :p

Nooo go back to the QT. We had a truly fantastic stay at the QT Gold Coast. Super fun, interesting and trendy hotel. Lobby bar gets happening on a Sat night. And I don't normally enjoy hotel brekky as i find them exceedingly generic but brekky at their in house resto Bazaar was fab! The strawberry and rhubarb jam was totally to die for! It's now our default choice of hotel when on the GC.

Ok I'm back at the QT. but the breakky sounds expensive though.

QT is very hit'n'miss for me (Have stayed there three or four times now). But I understand where Keith009 is coming from - it is hip'n'funky. But I would prefer somewhere a little less "over the top", "pretentious" and would really rather they employed staff based on brains not other physical attributes.

In particular I dislike how they treat Rydges PriorityGuest members (Plat esp.) compared to other hotels in the group ...

There is nothing pretentious or ott about style and an appreciation for form and forward thinking design. Plus their porters, yum!

The QT GC is an excellent execution of everything a design hotel ought to be. Can't wait for an opportunity to check out the QT Sydney which has been designed by Nic Graham (the G in G&A) who also did the excellent W Hong Kong.

People of my age will regard the QT as a paradise, which i fairly disagree with. Personally for this trip, due to the lack of any reasonable points earning hotels nearby, I've to stick with the QT. Would love to return to the marriott but its too expensive.

Home - QT Hotels

It's a playful spin on 'cutie.' The ones in GC and Port Douglas are converted Rydges, whilst the Sydney property has been designed from ground up and a refurb of some random old building of certain historical significance (read about it in an SMH feature but no idea what's so special about the building now - one for the history/architectural buffs).

Port Douglas is a converted rydges, gold coast was the gold coast international and was refurbished.

From what I understand aabout syd is that it was a theatre in a previous life and the facades remain.

Whilst I will be on QF860 I am also on QF861 as I have to get back to MEL. So close, yet so far! At least I will catch up with a few AFFers on the flight up.

Have an awesome time, and Sam, it looks like you have put together a great weekend. I will just have to wait for AFF #7.

Me jealous much? Uh Huh!

Well let me know. Have roughly the same thoughts on a drink or two at the BBQ and questionable driving afterwards.
Plans could change slightly.

I may hire a car on Saturday as I need to restock some supplies in apartment and can drop it off at OOL on Sunday for no extra cost. So will need do that after game of golf but will need to find a way back to BBQ. See how things go on the day.

This is the most up to date/accurate attendee list for all 3 days, but please PM me if I'm missing you/have you or a guest listed wrongly.

What's the plan on movement (timing) between lunch and dinner on Saturday?

I'm planning to drive down on Saturday afternoon, as my first event will be Saturday dinner, however barring that I need to be there by 6pm, I didn't want to turn up early and find no one at Royal Pines.

Also, in lieu of not going to the golf on Sunday morning, I'm thinking of seeing in QF860 at the gate at OOL. Happy to bring a few people along (although that does mean less to no people on QF860 able to get a ride back!).

Is there a location and rough time for the BBQ? Just liaising with my cousins who I am staying with on Sunday night as to where and when to meet them.

Currently there's nothing planned for lunch, but I had suggested the Food Store in the Hilton as a nice place for lunch, just depends how people are feeling, and there's also a big dinner that night.

After the Q1 SkyPoint Climb I'll likely make my way to the shops to prepare for the BBQ, before spending the rest of the afternoon marinating chicken ;) so you're welcome to come down to Royal Pines and park at my place before dinner.

If you're confident to drive the white 4WD I have in the garage, that has 7 passenger seats, probably good enough for both directions ;)

The location for the BBQ is essentially RACV Royal Pines Resort, located on Ross Street in Ashmore. Easily accessible from the M1 or Surfers Paradise/Broadbeach. We're thinking the kick off will be around 12. I'll be playing golf but will have someone at the house regardless if the golf takes longer than expected.

As for finish time, it's really up to you pending other commitments/flights. For those on later flights or even spending the night on the Gold Coast I'm happy to let things go on till late afternoon/evening.

I'll do a post in the next day or so with full maps and directions for everyone and include signs on the street where appropriate to guide you in ;)
