Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan

Just on AS Mileage - does anyone know what time frames one can cancel an award bookings? I've got a QF J seat LAX BNE next month but we may have to change and come home earlier. 24hrs notice? 48? Same day possible? The website doesn't really give timeframes ....

60 days advance notice is free.
Anything under 60 days, you pay a $125 charge!

Not sure about close in deadlines... i normally avoid them because of the charge...

managed to call and book an award ticket from HKG-SYD in Apr 2018, none for HKG-MEL .. will keep on checking for MEL and hopefully something will 'appear'.. thanks for those confirming the no again.. :-)
Will probably appear close in (14 days or less).

Me too, I've used paid AS miles in J x 2 many times past few years couple about one third of flight buy price OZ/HG but mostly out of HKG to Europe and USA where there are a plethora of award seats (unlike QF), the latter direct to numerous US cities and miss LA zoo too.

I'm weighing up buying these miles versus the current Aadvantage sale to buy points for LHR-MEL in J or F. The Mileageplan award chart doesn't seem to show an option for points from Europe to Australia. Am I missing something? Initially I just want to confirm the points requirements so I can compare pricing.

Best option using AS is to combine two redemptions on CX (though Asia Miles via credit card earn often works out better for this esp if return)

You cannot book Australia to Europe on same PNR with AS miles. You need to break it up into, Australia to HKG - HKG to Europe.

Your post just reminded me to go back and ready the e-mail from Alaska Airlines that I got the other day.

Flam'n heck! I still have over 100K Alaska miles! For some reason I thought I was down to 20K or so and had stoped thinking of them.

Quick check of their expiry rules .. their miles don't expire, but account may be deleted after 24 months of inactivity (buying miles appears not to count as activity). Ten months to go ... time to start planning a trip (SQ not on their award charts yet).

would someone be able to refresh my memory please - can you use this for Australia - Europe?

if yes, only via HKG on CX or also on QF via DXB?

Having trouble, Alaska won't confirm LAX-MEL PY on QF96 in late july, shows up on both Alaska and Qantas searches....If I call will they be able to book it?

I've used AS miles for Aus/HK to the States, but haven't used it for HK - Europe. The CX option of HK - Europe seems pretty good value in J.

How did you go with this? The Alaska site often shows phantom availability, drawn from QF's inventory which is only available to QF members (a good example if the recent 'wide open' SYD-DFW which is available to QFFF members, but was not available to partners).

For accurate availability of what Alaska might be able to book, cross reference with the JAL booking tool. That only shows what's available to partners.
