ALL QF's 330's to get lay flat Business seating - Including Domestic

To compare like for like did VA compensate those on "old" J and not the J when the upgrades were occurring in the 330 fleet?
Sure - I was responding to moa999's post, but I have seen no anecdote of QF doing similar with such a sub, athough there is suggestion up-thread they may once more of the refurbs are completed.

It is more a read between the lines reference to another thread more than anything.

I should add my Excel usage makes me struggle with numbers for columns and letters for rows :-)

I'm flying on QF 112 from AKL to PER on 10/01, the seat map currently shows 6 across in J, although when booked several months ago it was showing up as the new config 4 across in J.
Does anyone know my chances of scoring an upgraded A332?

9 out of 18 A330-200 refurbs are complete so your chances are 50/50.

As it has been noted, QF have been using EBM/N mostly on this route. It may be disappointing to those in J as its one of the versions of the domestic recliners

Had my first trip in one of the new seats the other day.

Overall not too bad, but travelling as a family not too good, especially when one of the family is only 2 years old and couldn't see his dad in the seat next to him and the other little family member is 7 months and was almost too big for the bassinette, whereas in economy it is much bigger and less coffin like.

Also of interest when Qantas operates the domestic A330's on international flights they don't offer duty free. Gather it is lack of space in the galley to store it all. It was never an issue when they had the 4 international -200's, even though they operated domestic too.

Also interesting that despite EBS and EBV both being in service, EBE and EBJ (and possibly some other refurbed -200's) are seeing very regular use on international flights. I wonder if maybe there is an extra -300 out of service at the moment?

moa999, indeed, but surely QF should be making every effort to provide a refurbished aircraft on the highest yielding routes?

The airline would easily be able to calculate this.

Naturally on some occasions a non-refurbished aircraft would have to form a flight, but this should be only the fallback option.

It would be fascinating to rank all the nominally A333 routes from SYD, MEL and BNE on yield per seat kilometre, whether just for J or for J plus Y.

On the routes concerned it could then advertise the likely presence of refurbished planes with the usual * indicating a disclaimer.

Perhaps moa999 given your obvious knowledge you could supply what you perceive as the 'revenue per seat kilometre' ranking for each route from highest to lowest.

No knowledge on that but from casual observation, refurbed planes have been used more on SIN, HKG, NRT routes and less on BKK, CGK, MNL, HNL which would probably go with my guess of yield.

FYI these aircraft fly fairly complicated patterns to maximise utilisation, fit in maintenance and many unscheduled issues - hence the many last minute changes (which we again won't notice when everything is the same Config)

The calibre of the competition is probably a factor too.

Actually CGK is probably the one route where a refurb is an almost certainty. Been that way for about 4-5 months now maybe only 3 or flights in that time operated by Bon refurbished a/c. To start with it was always ebs and ebv but since ebs went into maintenance in November ebe and ebj have become regular and this despite ebs now being back in service.

Yes. Forgot this was more a 332 route. Also as recently reviewed GA has a very good offering

Well, fingers crossed then.

I will send an update on Sunday week as to which version of 332 actually turns up

Appears QPH might have been parked on 28/12 having not flown for 2.5days now. As a slightly younger aircraft expecting just a one month Refurb (like QPI)

Just flew MEL-PER in J on a very, very cough hard A332 product. May as well have been on a B738.

And?

There is no secret not all the fleet is upgraded and there is no secret that there is no guarantee you will get a refurbished aircraft.

Whilst certainty not fool proof did you at least check the config before you booked?
