How is Qantas letting them down if they sub out the only aircraft currently reconfigured? It's not like the ever guaranteed it would be that configuration. You should have the attitude of "I hope they get lucky".

If the refurbed plane was ALREADY SCHEDULED to be their flight then I'd argue they'd be unlucky to get subbed.
If I was flying SYD-CGK tomorrow then yeh I'd need to get massively lucky.

Anyway they flown it yesterday and they said it was exceptional and that is a big call from them they are largely SQ J/F flyers but they were impressed. Said the QF service levels have also lifted from when they last few them a few years ago.

Now they fear that the next leg of their trip which is QR 77W J 2-2-2 will be a massive downgrade lol.

for those interested.. refit VH-EBA is back on line today, flying QF589 BNE-PER. current refit fleet is 3 (VH-EBV/QPA/EBA)
also...EBA is also the first a/c which has Qstreaming/supplied ipads in Y/C (instead of 'fixed' seatback IFE)...I don't know the actual 'setup'..so if anyone has pics...we would all love to see :D

Just out of interest, will the 300's ever get wintips/winglets installed like the 200's have?

Edit: see post below

They all do.
A332,3,4's all have the same winglet fitted at the factory. Only on the odd occasion you see one missing.
Aircraft vs Catering Truck etc :p

Your wish is my command.

Got a complete surprise yesterday when I checked in to Expertflyer to see if a miraculous WP shadow would be with my today (yeah right ) when I noticed there was an aircraft change. Score - the fresh out of the maintenance hanger VH-EBA.

I am traveling on personal coin this trip (read: whY all the way), so a reasonably late request for an X fare (and 18,000 FFP's lighter, but better than a circa $600 one-way fare for Y) got me a seat today. No chance of an upgrade using points and I've been kicking myself the whole time since I saw the changed metal.

The J cabin looks fantastic! Oh how jealous I was. There were Qantas staff EVERYWHERE. Checking on things, making sure the iPads worked etc.

Same old sausage, scrambled egg, hashbrown and beans for the meal - didn't bother with a pic.

I knew everyone would be interested in the iPad holders... another thing - they supply iPad Minis in the Y cabin, just like the 717s.

The holder holding the iPad in place is spring loaded - you can fit your own regular iPad or tablet in there if you wish. Note the TWO USB points either side of the holder. This is to allow the iPads to be charging whilst you use them and another device to be plugged in/charging at the same time. The new supplied iPad minis have a USB cord permanently attached to them... great for the 5 hour trek west.

Pitch still isn't that great...

Didn't get a good photo of the seat itself - but think fabric design similar to the 717... the criss-cross stitching, but way more comfortable cushioning.

Can't wait to try that new J seat out...

Edit: J seats have the fixed (large!) screen as per other A330 aircraft. No iPads as far as I could tell.

Did the ex-JQ aircraft always have USB ports, or did they replace the back of the Y seats?

Noooo, was booked on QF589 in a few weeks - with a new seat map, only for it to change back to a 2-2-2 configuration. Still crossing my fingers for a new-config plane!

just got off QF81 in new config. Loving it, especially the new very responsive entertainment system, and no droop as experienced on skybeds.

Thanks for the photos! I wish they went with the full size iPads though for the larger screen size. Were there any issues streaming. Also how was the entertainment content?

Much better solution with built in charging versus what was done on the 767s and 717s.

That said given they have seemingly run power to the seats and replaced the head units with the spring loaded holder, couldn't they have just installed a permanent screen or tablet.

As per post #923 we are now at 3 total, only one -300.
Would not expect the second -300 until end of March (first one took 2.5mths to complete)

Latest AusBT article seems to confirm late March for -300 #2 and early April for -200 #3
(I note vh-ebs is still flying)

SYD-HNL goes 787 for Jetstar on Thursday freeing up an A330. I'm guessing a JQ bird will head to BNE for conversion at that point.

I suspect via the paint shop in SIN. QFSource reports QPB returned to service freshly painted today
