Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

Given that SYD-HNL is the longest route the A330 fleet flies, I suspect that HNL will always get the A333 (2 toilets) once the refurbs are completed.

SYD-HNL might be the longest route distance wise (by a mere 200 miles) but it's not the longest flight time wise... shanghai takes 30 minutes to an hour longer flying time than HNL (depending on whether HNL is west or eastbound).

one would think shanghai would be a more important business market than Honolulu in terms of providing passenger amenities?

The issue with the 333 ex shanghai is that it is weight restricted. Not sure if the same applies out of HNL given the shorter flying time.

Given how long Qantas kept flying 767s to Honolulul for, I guess Qantas agree that Honolulu isn't the most important in providing passenger amenities.

They should all be done within 12 months so won't be much time difference. I had expected QF to be guaranteeing new product on SIN by now, but they are flying them all over the place

I thought end of 2016 was the target and I actually thought they were behind schedule ?
Are they in fact ahead of schedule ?

I guess for now inconsistency remains the only consistency.

I have a sneaking suspicion that that's because they almost always need the extra 2 seats in J for the flights where they have been subbed off (28J vs 30J in the old configuration).

Somebody I know was travelling on QF5 a couple of weeks back and at the time the new config aircraft was subbed off the flight, it was showing J0. Nearer the time of departure, the reconfigured aircraft was subbed back onto the flight and it was then showing J7, which then led me to think it has something to do with the availabilities in J.

Has anyone tried both the 25 inch seats and the 23 inch seats ?
Is the difference noticeable ?

Business markets definitely require more toilets! Anyway one toilet on either route will be problematic.

What do you mean by business markets??

The main issue I see on the -200s is if they are used on the overnight legs back from Asia (as some will given 10 300s is not enough) that getting changed into PJs is going to be a lengthy process

This.

QF have their big press launch last October announcing the A330 upgrade, have the J seats out for demos, splash the beautiful cabin pics all over their website but as always there is a little microscopic '*' under every mention of the upgrade *progressive roll out to be completed by late 2016.

The very first mention of the upgrade dates back to August 2013 - talk about getting three years of 'good news' milage from this upgrade programme.

It was a pleasant surprise getting an upgraded aircraft on my SYD-MNL service last month. The Y seats are very comfortable (more so than the A380 seats) and the IFE is as expected in 2015 - smooth touch operated with loads of content.

The CSM on that flight said QF had brought forward the upgraded aircraft to the MNL flight because of demand however I have not seen it on several upcoming flights so not sure why he advised me of this. Basically every route is in dire need of the upgraded birds as the old cabins are a joke for the top dollar QF charges on most routes. The SYD-MNL route has seen fares north of $1400 one way!

End of 2016 was mentioned in AusBT articles.

At present they have done 9 of 28 having started in mid-Nov-14 so 9 in 7 months. At the same rate the remainder would take 15 months, but the majority are 200s which are being quicker

Regarding "business markets" I'm just quoting the post above. Yes one toilet is going to be a problem in many ways.

Btw. Be careful what you wish for... Have had two flights with the new seats, not great, especially the even row window single seats, very awkward to get in and out of, an improvement on Mk1 Skybed, sure, but nothing to get terribly excited about. Perhaps one day Apple will be commissioned to design an IFE system rather than the current messy devices. Anyways that's a whole other story.

QANTAS BNE-SIN J Class seating

just returned from SYD-BKK-SYD on J class last month and was disappointed that the seat was not the new Marc Jacob (?) layout. i will be travelling next month, does anyone know whether the BNE-SIN-BNE has the new seating for the J class ? cheers

Re: QANTAS BNE-SIN J Class seating

They are still in the process of refurbing planes so its a bit hit and miss at the moment as to whether you get the new or the old seat.

Re: QANTAS BNE-SIN J Class seating

Me too wonder if newer version early Sept next?.

Re: QANTAS BNE-SIN J Class seating

The refurb of the A330s will continue into late 2016 so nothing is guaranteed until then.
At the moment 4 of 10 330-300s have been completed and 1 is currently in the shop.

So by September your odds are looking at better than 50% (5 of 9)'

By looking at the seat map for the flight you are booked you can see what is currently scheduled, but this of course may change, right up to the last minute.

Re: QANTAS BNE-SIN J Class seating

How can one tell if its the new type?.

We are booked as shown.

I have moved your question and the subsequent answers to the existing thread.

No other version of the 330 (332/333) has the 1-2-1 configuration.

If the seat map sticks you are in luck.

There has been mention on here that the middle two seats may not be the best for a couple. Something to keep in mind.
