Now that most of the A333s have been refurbished, I was wondering if the limited edition Oroton Amenity Kits are still being handed out on the new J suite overnighters from Asia. Maybe some who have made the trips recently would share their knowledge.

Didn't get one for QF36 SIN-MEL on 16 January. Received the usual Jack Spade kit.

I'm not sure I'd say "most", others with more knowledge chime in but I believe they are just over half complete.

QFFHntrGthr said "...most A333s have been refurbished...". This is correct. 8 are complete, 1 is getting done now leaving 1 to go. You are correct that just over half of the A332s are complete (10 of 18 with one in progress).

Ah right, thought he was referring to the whole fleet. Thanks for the correction.

As you were.

Lesley Grant seems to indicate in yesterday's email that the A330 fleet won't be completed with business suites until - potentially - the end of this year:

Over half of our Airbus A330 fleet has now been reconfigured with new Business Suites and refreshed economy seating, with the remaining aircraft to be completed this year.

If it was going to be sooner she would have said so. So it looks like there might be some delay over the next few months.

Could possibly indicate that they'll only do 1 x A332 at a time once the A333s are done. Either that or she's being extremely cautious and is doing the classic under promising and over delivering.

Seems logical...

I wouldn't read much into the wording of the email.
Its only real function was to mollify frequent flyers who might otherwise have felt that the profit being announced had somehow come at their expense.
Of course nothing could be further from the simpler, fairer truth.

I didn't read anything like that... Where else does profit come from?

First flights on QF for four months at the weekend (PER-BNE-PER), with A332 J upgrades both ways, awarded at the time of the original booking. Always shown as new J until this evening when an old 332 J seat map appeared for the first time (less than 48 hours from departure).

Fine I said. These things happen. I will go back to Y and save the 20000pts. Called to downgrade to Y and inquired about not paying the 5000pt cancellation fee as QF changed the aircraft. Fine they said, they will do it as a one off. All looked good and no real damage done.....

Then the CSR said that to go back to Y (with no other changes), QF would charge an $88 change fee, the telephone service fee, cancel my old ticket and reissue a new ticket along with a ~$166 fare difference. All to sit four rows back from my currently assigned seat.

So it looks like I am flying in old J or on VA as it would be $66 cheaper in total.....

Only 150 days ago, I was a QF P1. And they now wonder why I have not flown QF for four months.

WP can cancel upgrades for free on VA - https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Redeem/FlightUpgrades/upgrade-cancel-amend-policy/

Would you have been happier if she'd said "completed in the second half of this year", which it will be? Probably around August at the current rate.

"This year" and "end of this year" are not the same thing.

I don't read too much into the statement they have always said it would be completed in 2016.

My earliest estimate is mid-Aug, if they did the 332s two at a time after they completed QPJ mid-May (but that also doesn't leave time for painting QPG-QPJ at 2wks each).
QPG will be out mid-April, and QPJ mid-May. So if they rotate the 333s through SIN paintshop after refurb completion you are actually at about mid-July for 333 refurb and repaint, by which time you would be at about 15/18 332s which could stretch to mid-October if done one at a time after that.

Only potential delay I see is that given the two 747s VH-OEB and OJM are reportedly receiving refreshes and heavy maintenance checks (according to Australian Aviation) that this may delay the 330 refurbs as they use 333s on some of the 747 routes ( guessing QF25/26 SYD-HND and QF127/128 SYD-HKG given ETOPS) but that all depends on when the heavy checks are due.

"This year" and "end of this year" are not the same thing.

Neither is committing to a date other than by December. Until then, uncertainty remains. You can book a flight with the suites and find it substituted for Mk1 without any compensation.

Those 5 planes with the recliners (including EBM) would only feature on the international runs if it's the last option available.

I don't think any international services have been on recliners (but suspect the reference was to domestic subs)

The core international 332 fleet is EBG/EBL (SkyBedI) and EBS/EBV (refurbs with screen in Y). EBN/EBM will add to this in coming months.
A couple of the refurb with iPad in Y 332s have been used occasionally.

The post that I responded to was a response to the downgrade to MkI skybeds, so I am assuming it was referring to the intl runs only.

The recliners have indeed featured on some international runs before (PER-SIN have copped these before), but it is a rarity generally. Saying that EBM/N has been the norm on the QF111/112 runs between PER and AKL which would be a disappointment for those in J. Someone may want to change the advertising on the QF website with this in mind...

Not really, QF is starting using 332/333 to fly PVG route from Mar, and the seat map shows MkI skybeds which is 2-2-2 lay out. QF website shows only 2 332 for Int version, and the remainings are all for domestic. I suspect QF might start using domestic version to fly some Int routes if they have to.
