Poor planning at Qantas? Surely not...what an outrageous allegation! ;)

uninformed flippant comments/generalizations on AFF...Surely not..what an outrageous allegation;). (detect the irony )

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

the VH-QPE which is a A330-300 and it flew direct to HNL
As stated before, an A333 (or any other aircraft) can fly further than their claimed maximum range if they don't have a full load.

Given that I fly Qantas quite a lot, and keep fairly close tabs on what they are doing, I think I am reasonably well informed. And for the record I would much rather make positive comments about them: but I'm afraid they are making it increasingly hard.

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

The only way current QF A333 can fly to HNL with a full payload is to refuel somewhere in the Pacific.
The A333 has much less range than the A332 because the standard off the shelf config ex-manufacturer (not QF spec) comes without centre tank- it only has fuel tanks in the wings. Just because it's a bigger plane with a bigger model number dos not mean it can fly further.

It is possible to retrofit the aircraft with a centre fuel tank but the 787 are in the pipeline.

According to QF range with full payload on the A333 is 3800mi. A332 is 5300mi with full payload.

Range can of course increase if payload (freight) is reduced.

SYD-HNL is 5066mi (GC)
SYD-SIN is 3908mi
SYD-HKG is 4581mi

I believe some of the CX A333 have centre fuel tank larger vert stabiliser and higher MTOW.

Interesting that the only refurbed aircraft that have done the HNL run have been 333s (albeit only every now and then). No refurbed 332s have appeared, I suspect because QF won't put the 332s on HNL because of the J toilet and galley issues.

So that leaves only two choices for HNL services:
a) refurbed 333 with reduced payload
b) unrefurbed 332

And hence we find ourselves exactly where we now appear to be ..........

Save me reading back 74 pages, what is the "J toilet issue"?

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

The reduction of toilets in the 332 J cabin from 2 down to 1.

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

The reduction of toilets in the 332 J cabin from 2 down to 1.

Why is this an "issue" specific to HNL (and not elsewhere)?

Not specific to HNL but more the longer routes the 332s are on

If anything its less of an issue on the HNL flights - the issue is at start and end of flight as people change into PJs -- more apparent in the mornings on the flights back from Asia.
On a longer flight this can be spread out a bit more

Reduced payload would be the only way to reach HNL. Don't know how much $$$ the airline forgoes in freight capacity. Does Australia export anything anymore that can fit into an A333?.

Suspect that's why it's only done sparingly

The CX A333 have 8T for 262 passengers - 2 More than the QF A332 carrying similar pax.

So one wonders whether QF really factor this in at all (I suspect I know the answer to this) - as undesirable as it is to the pax.

As Quickstatus says, i think freight foregone (and associated revenue) would far outweigh any "pax amenities between aircraft" factors in QF's eyes.

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

Sounds like an excellent case for setting up a separate group of "international" 332's, as I suggested previously; knock out maybe 3 rows of Y which would leave plenty of room for extra galleys & toilets, and a config of 28J/219Y: fairly typical for 332's in international, and a very viable & competitive product. This would put an end to the fantasy that the existing 332's are suitable for longer-haul routes. Chances of this happening? How close to zero can you get?

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

According to a colleagues son who has been doing the 330 refits at BNE the last two are still scheduled to be done by the end of the year.

Of course this is still hearsay, but fingers crossed it happens.

I still have an unrefurbished A332 next month from Shanghai to Sydney so it looks like it'll be Skybed MKI for me.

Having said that I'm not too fussed. The lack of a second restroom in J when reconfigured is very noticeable.

As good a source as any other we've had and consistent with the memo and what Customer Service have said

EBG ha been in brisbane since 13th sept seems to be in there longer then the EBL

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

EBL was in for 11 days.. EBG is now 14. The full 332 refurbs were typically 28.
If its still there next week then more chance its being refurbed and not just a check.

The posters in the know on YSSY have gone very quiet

Hope you're right. My Sin to Syd flight has gone back to a SK1 configuration

Expert travel people... is QF768 on Monday an old-config? Looks like it to me according to Seat Guru, but I am no expert ;-)
Cheers!!
