Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

QBR, large spend, threatened to cancel - 80k retention. Not totally happy with it given what a good customer I am for them and the reduced earn rate - but I'm not sure internally they shared info with eachother than I have the biz plat anyway now and would have happily cancelled the QBR and have fully transitioned out of this card regardless.
How large was the annual spend?
 
Did anyone have luck in getting retention bonus points for the Plat charge card. I have my annual fee posted but the customer care on phone/chat is reading is reading me the standard text that we cannot offer any bonus points and the annual fee is for the benefits of the cards available at this time.
 
Platinum renewal came up. I called, said "I questioned the value, and here are the issues (no concierge, devaluation of SQ, a fraud alert on my card taking 18 hours to call me, challenges redeeming dining credit).

Overseas agent said "we are not allowed to give points on cancellation". I said "I didn't say I wanted to cancel, I told you I've had issues with the card and I question the value and I'm wondering what you would offer in terms of a customer service benefit".

She said "I cannot guarantee anything, I'll come back to you in 3-5 business days".

It's business day 5, no call.

I pretty much had a similar response and they don't care. I was transferred to the cancellation team but I ended up hanging up. Will call again later this week.

I would suggest you ask to be transferred to the Australian team for this... Fingers crossed...
 
Resoundingly denied today on cancel of a QF ultimate. Cited the regulations for no retention offer, and then that they couldn't offer a bonus because I held a card within the last 18 months. Ah well, the 18 month lockout period begins...

Did you cancel and then check for an offer to reinstate?
 
Called this morning to cancel my QF Ultimate card. I spoke with an Australian agent and asked directly if there were any retention offers available? He indicated that they don't do them any more and the only offer was to downgrade to a fee free card.
$5-7k per month on the card.
 
At least the last month of points earn still credited, even after card cancellation. This is usually the case but it was a few more points than usual this time so was a little worried
