Announcing our New Velocity Frequent Flyer Program

LiamR and koonyaflyer, I'm sure you would rather increasing patronage than decreasing (to the point that it is uneconomically viable to run VA and they have to go the same way as Compass Mark 1 & 2, Ansett, et al). Then your status and all the benefits gained, but not used, would be worthless.

Absolutely agree with that...however it is the Carnival atmosphere that I find interesting with booths at Lounges and the very overt nature of the matching.

As I said...the Status in the near term for me will be Platinum, so not a personal loss, rather a watchout that in the flurry of all the new Platinums and Golds through matching DJ will need to be able to meet the expectations..... or those with feet in both camps (Plat QF and DJ) may end up not making the long term move, just as we who have been around and loyal could also look further afield. Changes for all of us I suppose.

Hi Velocity Frequent Flyer, firstly many thanks for some great announcements today!

Just wondering... I know it can take up to 4 weeks for membership cards to arrive, but I was wondering how long it might take for e-mail requests to be processed - to at least have the status change online? I got in fairly early this morning!

Just wondering if it's worthwhile for me to call into a lounge to speed up the process...

Little did they know that today's announcement were known to her, but she was obviously unable to share with us last night - as was advised by the VA Rep today. But at least one member I know gave Annette their details last night (I'm not sure in what context) and unbeknown to them, she was able to Status Match them first up this morning and really make their day.

Now I really wish I had been there. Any chance a VA rep could show me some love and pretend I'm a WP. I'd sure be a very happy chap when I got back to BNE. In fact, first thing I do when I land on the 18th will be to stop by the lounge and have a drink/say hello!

There is a lot to digest here but overall I feel this is a very positive move in the right direction....

The Lounge team will sort you a temporary status match quicker, but if you got in quick, then I would doubt you would have to wait the four weeks.

I tried a V Australia one way in J in about a months time and it came up 800k points one way SYD-LAX !

I wonder if the Guaranteed Reward Seats for the once a year trip applies to J seats? The wording seems to indicate this - "Redeem your Points for the seat you want when you want", but I'm struggling to believe it, coming from the QF world where finding 4 x J seats for the family to the US around Christmas is an impossible dream.

Rune.

Have had clarification on this.

Guaranteed Reward Seats only apply to economy class reward seats as they are guaranteed, regardless of whether you can find them online or not.
Unfortunately it wouldn't be financially viable for us to guarantee everyone a J class seat!

I'm very surprised by a status match on the back of these announcements. In fact I would have predicted the opposite, that those of little faith waiting on the fence for so long would now have a hard road of status runs before them. Yes I can see the logic but honestly with the program so viable now it may have been unnecessary to get these flyers across.

I suppose more business in a bunch now though is worth more in the long run than making them earn it.

Velocity Frequent Flyer,

As someone who currently holds a Velocity Gold membership, but hasn't flown enough this year to keep it, so it's soon to expire, but has requalified as a Qantas Gold, can I still apply for the status match?

refer to my previous post about golden handcuffs with QF. Very few people would be willing to go from QF WP back to zero status whilst they built up to velocity WP.

Velocity e-mail arrived about half an hour ago with details of the new Platinum level.

Cove, was that a VA ASA (i.e., points earning seat) ?

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

Did anyone here go to the airport to get the match then obtain whatever else was the "additional treat" for presenting yourself there in person?

Of course, you are in your full right to be a tease.... :o

Go get 'em Virgin. Although next I'll be hitting you up about your international alliance partners, need to find out if you can get me to Europe/US as seamlessly as QF can with oneWorld.
And here is where I have issues with codeshare/partnership arrangements as opposed to alliances.

There is no way I want to travel to Europe on a middle eastern carrier.

Still a good benefit. Can imagine it will still be a rat pack race during, say, Christmas, but great benefit nonetheless.

From reading the lounge access table online, it seems that anytime access only applies to Virgin Australia owned and operated lounges (which means only the domestic ones). So we don't have anytime access on any international flights (yet). Can someone confirm this? Sorry if it's been said before (can't find it)....

Well bad me, I couldn't wait for the email process. Status matched at SYD in The Lounge tonight. Very happy and I especially love that the bag tag is on a RedOxx metal cable tie. Great touch.

Also the "paper" temporary card is embossed.
