...getting a mental picture of 777 hurredly opening a new tab to sign into his VA account, to check the veracity of VFF's message ;)

Nice to see that that kind of offer is there, I'm sure some members' spouses will be rapt with getting Plat (so they can fly off to DPS with the girlfriends while their travel-wearly spouse stays at home)

Already there!
A Platinum member should see the 'SCs to Maintain' balance in their Account - this balance would also be the balance they use to determine how far away they are from 'Companion membership' as they would need to earn the 1500/2000 SC in their benefit review period.

Not sure i follow. All it says under "SCs to Maintain" is the number i need to hit platinum by Aug 25 next year (currently: 780!) but no link to the page that shows the credits that are dropping off and when they are dropping. Maybe it's a browser thing? Can any other plat confirm?

It's gone for me as a Gold but was there last week.

Yep, did that.

I'm sure would so something like that, although the fact that she works and has to manage young Captain-1-year-old probably makes that seem less appealing/ practical. For my part i'd happily go ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE on hols if i got the chance :)

Right. So i'm not mad then!

Mine is there, but it's not beside the "Maintain Gold" fields, its a link that says "Show detail" beside the "Upgrade to Platinum" fields, which theoretically, you won't have!

Yep, thats why its missing.

With the lounge passes you get for every 100 SCs earned... they only last 12 months; can the passes be gifted to others (family or otherwise)? If so, how does one go about this?

Many people who are single travelers (oh yes, our favourite "special" demographic) may have some trouble burning these vouchers in time, which would be a waste...

The numbers work for QF in terms of lounges at airports with a lot less passengers than NTL

I hope a lot more passengers will now opt for DJ instead of JQ out of NTL and they will build a lounge, that would be awesome!!! Not sure where they would fit it though ;)

Maybe you'll have to fly more then ;)

What if you have lounge access through other means?

That's the problem. I could fly a lot as a VFF Platinum and rack up 8-10 or even more lounge passes in a year. I'll requalify for Platinum and thus will never need to use a lounge pass.

The only time I'll get to use them as a Platinum is if I bring more than my fair share of guests to the lounge (and only into Virgin Australia domestic lounges in accordance with lounge pass rules). Which isn't likely to happen (but nevertheless is a conceivable scenario for anyone).

So as a Platinum my passes will simply go to waste. That is, unless they can be gifted, which is what I am asking whether is possible and how it can be done.

On the other hand, this benefit is probably more suited to Silver members and below. Perhaps that is the whole intention of VFF (i.e. the lounge passes benefit is not really a big deal once you get to Gold or especially Platinum, except in very select situations, so if you can't use them then big deal).

I'd also like an answer to this question - I'm going to earn something like 15 - 20 of these passes a year, which I'm just not going to be able to use (considering I can already guest 3 pax in to VA lounges as it stands).

Please tell me that there's a way to gift these passes to family or friends. If there isn't, this is a pointless feature of the program (and frankly, I'd much rather more upgrade certificates in lieu of the lounge vouchers anyway). Otherwise, should I just find random people in the terminal to guest in each time I'm at the airport? (yes, I know I'm being ridiculous)

Since I'm having a whinge anyway, is there any good reason that points upgrades aren't available on VA metal? This is the one thing I wanted the most .. :(

Like I said, it's not completely pointless. Silver members or lower will get the most benefit from it, since they do not get lounge access all the time. (Perhaps even some Silver and lower The Lounge members may even find benefit, since they can have extra guests. Then again, maybe not...)

and frankly, I'd much rather more upgrade certificates in lieu of the lounge vouchers anyway

That'd be nice, although giving one of those out per 100 SCs, even only to Platinums, is a bit too much IMO.

Well, you'd have to find at least 4 at a time (provided you travel alone, since 3 will be in your allowance and then the excess will start burning through passes). Would be awfully nice of you, if a bit ridiculous... :)

I suppose anyone from VFF would tell you, "All in good time... please be patient..."

In any case, there's no upgrades for international at all yet, only domestic by virtue of the Flexi->Premium upgrade vouchers for Platinums. Sure, fly as a Platinum domestically and sometimes you won't even need the voucher at all. But not on international.... however I think VFF is pitching itself primarily as a fantastic domestic program first, then an international one next.

I want to find where to buy the stainless steel tag loops.. very very cool and work well. much better than the plastic/rubber ones..

One place is here www.redoxx.com

Look for "Cable Lock"

Yeah I agree, I didn't know you had to pull on the left side as well. It's a nice little pack.

Obviousley they have set a small Intelligence test in order to be a gold. Wonder how many Qantas WPs will fail the test.

Nothing a knife couldn't fix. ;) The cardboard on mine actually got jammed up judging by the damage to the white cover and the gold card holder bit.

That'd be nice, although giving one of those out per 100 SCs, even only to Platinums, is a bit too much IMO.

1 per lounge visit voucher would definitely be too much. 1 upgrade certificate per every 5-10 lounge vouchers would make much more sense.

Let me throw an idea out there, see what people think.. instead of the current fare upgrade vouchers, what about Systemwide Upgrades, ala AA? Specifically, I was thinking that each upgrade voucher would be good for:
  • One cabin class upgrade
  • 5000 miles in a single direction on a single e-ticket
  • If from whY, must not be a deeply discounted ticket
  • Stackable
So - MEL-SYD-LAX return booked on a single ticket would cost 4 vouchers to upgrade the entire itinerary from whY+ to J (7927 miles, so 2 vouchers in each direction) or 8 vouchers from whY to J (7927 miles and two cabin classes up, so 2 x 2 vouchers in each direction).

Wishful thinking I know, but it'd be fairly awesome..! :D

Sorry but there is no way to 'gift' spare lounge passes to others.

The idea behind the 100SC Lounge pass was really to reward those members that perhaps don't have status, or are Silver and hence dont have Lounge access as part of their membership.
For the Golds and Platinum's who are heavy travellers, it may appear a little over the top, but for those one-off moments when you have a larger group of business people with you, it will make everyone's lives that little bit easier (we would prefer to avoid the awkward "Hello Mr Platinum, yes you can enter, but only 3 of your guests can").

Star Alliance Gold members get 20kg Complimentary Baggage Allowance on Singapore Airlines.

Will the Complimentary Baggage Allowance on Singapore Airlines be 20kg?

You know that happened all the time to me until recently, rent a friend is getting to expensive though , I tried rent a crowd but just got protesters complaining about the withdrawal of spirits from the inflight menu :lol:.
