To let all know that the Sunday trip is NOT on.

Durn. SWMBO was hoping to join that one.

Saturday trip is set and suggest people be at Sydney Terminal (Central) at 12.15pm for a 12.54pm departure.
Do you know exactly where and/or is there an obvious way to find the train? Or is that a truly uber-dumb question given the number of steam locos likely to be at Central on the day? :p

Normally just look for the smoke signals :D

Generally the specials like this run out of platforms 1,2 or 3 in the country platforms, to avoid people having to go through the ticket barriers. And the main destination boards will probably show a "Special Train".

No dumb questions on AFF...

You'll know when you see us, "normal passengers please don't join this train" has been a past announcement:D, the low number platforms as OATEK points out, no ticket barriers.

I have been holding on to the hope that I can come again this year, for a little further than last. But unfortunately I am off to Perth on Friday 4th and won't be back in time.:( I know that everyone who goes will have a great time.

My bookings for the next couple of weeks are clarifying so I am now very likely to miss the BAM again this year (and so will mini OzEire). Such a shame, we were BOTH looking forward to it !

Timetable is now released.

Departure time has moved slightly forward to 12.39pm, suggest people arrive about 12noon.

Matt

With any luck I'll get there, waiting on confirmation I can tack an extra day onto a business trip.

if not it'll just be the Prozac alternative - Platform 9 and 3/4

I just stumbled across this thread at 1.30am after spending something like 3 hours reading at all the the fascinating stuff on Australian frequent-flyer , and being a bit of a Armchair Enthusiast of all things railways , i would really like to come on this jaunt on Saturday the 5th of December if by any-chance you have space for one more. Cheers from Kev :)

Please do, we will fit you in.

Barring a miracle, I am (most unfortunately from my viewpoint, loved the one I did) a non-starter for this. :(

Thank you very much Matt :D
OK... so i will hang around platform 9 3/4 on Saturday the 5th of December at noon-ish, and hopefully a great day out to the Central Coast will follow.:)
and what shall i bring apart from enough dosh to pay for liquid and solid refreshments?
I'm really looking forward to this.
PS i wont be wearing my medieval helmet so you may not initially recognize me ;)

Apologies, I don't think I will make this one. The combination of work travel, a competing social event in Melbourne, and some family commitments make the logistics a bit too difficult for me.

Having been on a couple of train trips so far, I can highly recommend this to any members contemplating attendance. And also a big thank you again to BAM1748 (Matt) for his continuing generosity with these trips!

For those attending, you are in for a treat!

I am now all steamed up and good to go. Will see you there around 12 noon Saturday !! Hopefully getting plus one (local friend who's keen) but he's yet to confirm ! And yes it's great to see an event such as this held for frequent flyers ! After all, they were the original flyers !

Contacted the Angler's Rest pub at Hawkesbury River, and the restaurant side of the pub is booked out, so they will servce meals ordered (in the restaruant) to the pub side up to 7pm. There is a local fish and chip shop (can't be taken in the pub) and that might make a refreshing break in proceedings before resuming consumption.

Due into Hawkesbury River around 4pm and depart at 8pm.

Matt

Thanks Matt! I'll check into the Brooklyn Motel first and am thinking of having a swim in the tidal pool at McKell Park before joining you for dinner...

Doesn't sound like a bad idea at all.

Quick update.

Everything going to plan and BAM being cleaned up today and loaded with some beers, people are welcome to bring their preferred beveridge of choice. The BAMs should be parked at Central from about 10.15am but of course subject to train control.
