ANZ Black Lounge Access

I've got a Vietnam Airways flight coming up from Sydney to Heathrow and although I've managed a sky team status match (Alitalia) I wouldn't mind doing some lounge hopping to pass the time.
First question, I'll have my 4 year old son with me, do you reckon they'll let us both in?

I understand with the ANZ Qantas Black Amex we get access to the Amex lounge in Sydney? It's next to the Skyteam lounge so would be good for a nosy. Heathrow then gives us the Falcon Gold Lounge vs the Skyteam Lounge.

Was in Amman airport in late May and wanted to enter the lounge in the Queen Alia or whatever the airport is, listed on the Veloce lounge list but they wouldn't recognise the ANZ black card, ended up using a card to get Priority Pass access...

Accessed Menzies lounge in GOT, a little confusion with only black card but mentioned it was Veloce and it was fine.

Aspire Lounge in LGW South Terminal was closed for refurb, so no access there.

I could be wrong, but the ANZ Black QFF Amex does not allow access to non-Qantas Australian lounges. The ANZ website states: "Unlimited access to participating airport lounges outside Australia, through Veloce ..."

It allows 2 entries per calendar year.

I have the ANZ FF Black and was planning to use it in Sydney and Auckland in a few months. I have two cards though both are in my name.

I was planning to use the Amex for me and a guest to access the Amex Lounge in Sydney (//amexnetwork.com.au/GoodGoing/CardMembers)

2. Access to The American Express Lounge
(b) All other eligible cards are entitled to two (2) entries into The American Express Lounge per calendar year (1st January to 31st December) for each American Express Card account. The entries may be used by the basic Card Member, Supplementary Card Member or a guest travelling with a Card Member. Complimentary access is available for the Card Member's children between the ages of 2-17. Card Members wishing to bring additional guests will be subject to a charge that is to be processed on the Card Member's American Express Card. Please refer to the reception desk at the American Express Lounge for the applicable charges.

I was also planning to use it for me and a guest to access the Emperor Lounge in Auckland, but from posted in this thread (and the previously posted pdf) it sounds like they may not let a guest in?
If we used the two cards (both in my name) does anyone know if they let a guest in using one of those cards?

Part B – Terms and Conditions
5. If you are an Eligible Card holder, to gain complimentary access to aParticipating Lounge you must present:a. your Eligible Card; and b. a current and valid flight boarding pass in the same name as the EligibleCard, at the entrance to the Participating Lounge

8. Guests of the Eligible Cardholder may be admitted to a Participating Lounge at
the operator’s discretion, however may be charged a fee for entry.

Otherwise I might just need to get the missus her own card and some bonus points.

Ho Chi Minh International - CIP Apricot Lounge

Vietnam CIP Apricot Lounge at Ho Chi Minh International, was granted access with the ANZ Black, and my 4 year old son was granted access free of charge as well. The lounge is hidden away though, only accessible by lift (the staircase next to the lift doesn't go to the lounge) from near the Perfume shop.
I hadn't intended to use the lounge, but the two Vietnam Airlines lounges don't have showers, yet the small CIP Apricot lounge does.

Re: Ho Chi Minh International - CIP Apricot Lounge

I have used the ANZ Black card for access at the Auckland Emporer lounge several times now.
It was quick and easy, they knew all about the access.
They did take the time to make careful notes of all my credit card details and entered them, this may create some issues for additional card holders.
The lounge is quite good, easily on par with the QF J lounge, still not a patch on the EK lounge.

Hey Christoo - what do you mean may create some issues for additional card holders? I travelled recently and had additional card holders on my account also got access to the AKL lounge - is there something I should be concerned about?

Thanks,
Thanh

Re: Ho Chi Minh International - CIP Apricot Lounge

Went to the Lounge at Manchester Airport UK, last Tuesday week ago. Arrived and was told "We are full" and was then ignored. Asked was there entry with a Black Rewards Card and told yes there was, BUT WE ARE FULL COME BACK LATER. But they were still taking people who had paid and Booked.
I was a little disappointed, that we didn't get entry in to the lounge.

Dalescott:

Don't be disappointed, or even slightly disappointed.

I think I can speak with a "Little Experience" here.

Prior to retiring, I was a senior staff member at the Nine Network, yes, even dealt with the late KP at times.
I travelled, both on business and pleasure between the ages of 20 to 65. Was that 45 years?

One of the largest frustrations I ever experienced with travel and yes I had the applicable cards, was AIRPORT AIRLINE LOUNGES, here, there and everywhere.

They really, no matter what goodies they offer, are not worth the trouble.

Many may shoot (or attempt to shoot) me down here with the advantages and yes, it is well known what advantages exist, but the continual hassles one may experience are just not worth the trouble.

If your travel to the airport is reasonably comfortable and you don't need a shower, can sit in McCafe or similar with your Laptop and enjoy a Coffee whilst you wait for your flight..........Go for that instead.

Should your flight be with an airline who looks after you well in the class you've booked for, you are far far better off and I repeat, "I am speaking from 45 years of DOING IT"

For what it is worth in this discussion, should you walk from the front doors of the airport, through Check-In to your wonderful lounge, get greeted with a nice smile, rather than a curious look until your credentials are validated, by all means go for it.

But, should you experience the absolutely poor service, common to many lounges these days, it is simply a "No-Go" in many cases.

Enjoy your flight, enjoy the on-board experience, which in many cases is much better than sitting in a room a long way from the cabin where you will usually be treated with the dignity you deserve!

Re: Ho Chi Minh International - CIP Apricot Lounge

Thank You melaus
You are correct, and in the end it was just a small freebee. In the end we sat in a coffee shop and had a coffee and paninee. It wasn't crowded and was comfy. My problem was that if they are going to offer these sort of things, you should at least be advised that there is a chance that you will not get it.
PS I have used the China Eastern Lounge at Pudong Airport Shanghai, and it was hard to even call it a lounge.

Re: Ho Chi Minh International - CIP Apricot Lounge

I'll be in Geneva in the next month and was planning on using the lounge there with my ANZ Black card. I will be traveling with someone and was thinking of adding them as an additional cardholder so they can join me. Do they have to process the card in anyway, such as swiping it? IE: What if the additional card is not yet activated, will we still be able to get in?

Re: Ho Chi Minh International - CIP Apricot Lounge

Denied access to the lounge next to gate L8 at KILA2, was told that they haven't been accepting ANZ for 1 year now.

Re: Ho Chi Minh International - CIP Apricot Lounge

Has anyone been able to access "The Haven by JetQuay" in T2 Singapore. I'm going to cancel my cards in December before the $425 fee but i'm travelling in January. Do they swipe your card or just look at it?

Hmm, I thought you could only get into the Ambassador lounge in T2 in Singapore...
When I went through in July this year, they swiped the card and that was it. I don't think the machine does any form of validation apart from to check the BIN.
Nothing appeared on my statement or anywhere afterwards...
