FYI it looks like these cards will no longer earn points on ATO payments after 27 February 2016.

Taken from Australian Business Traveler website: "You’ll pay no annual fee in the first year for any of these cards, although be aware that from February 27 2016 ANZ will cease awarding points on all ATO credit card payments: so if your plans involve paying down your HECS debt, get in before then to earn those valuable points."

Not sure why some sign up for this card when they struggle to meet the criteria. If you're contemplating pushing rent for a fee to achieve the minimum spend then probably you should be looking elsewhere.

Anyhow, it's a simple affair to book a fully refundable business/first class air fare (e.g. on QR or EK), then refunding it once the points are credited. You'd obviously need to pay out the balance and end up with a credit on the credit card which can be withdrawn back - or spent anyway.

I signed on for the 50000 point deal with ANZ earlier in the year and promptly cancelled after banking the points. I wonder if they'll hold that against me if I apply for this?

Others on AFF have tried this and reported that the 12 month exclusion period is enforced. My 12 months is up on 4 Jan and i will be reapplying then.

Thats sad, not many choices left.

hit the $7500 spend in the first statement. just got the 2nd statement. got the regular points for 1st and 2nd statements but not the bonus 75k yet. what has been everyone elses experience with the timing of the 75k points?

HI Jetcam,

I hit the 7.5k in the second statement and had the 75k credited at the end of that period. Had the same experience with the 50k on the normal card for my wife earlier this year.

I also reached the spend limit in the second month and have now reached the end of the statement period, but no bonus points yet. Standards points have credited.

In case anyone interested, I applied 2 days ago for the ANZ Black.
That day not an immediate response but request for financial info which i provided that day.
Approval came the next day - pretty painless.

I applied last week, had to provide payslips and all went smoothly with cards arriving in the mail.
Being new to signing up for cards I did not realise I then needed to physically go into a branch and show identification. My wife had to also, as I ordered the cards for her as well. That was a nightmare, which I will not bore anyone with.
A question (and perhaps for anther thread? - my first post so be gentle...) is which cards can you, for example, scan identification or another method other than physically going into a branch? Come to think of it AMEX Platinum Edge was all online.

Most cards don't require you to do this.

I can start the list with Macquarie cards. Only ever had to provide my licence number.

BankWest were cough and required me to attend a branch.

Oh and Welcome to AFF. You might want to say hello officially here:

Introductions

my spend points for December have been credited but still not the 75K bonus, it has been 2 statements since I hit the min spend requirement. I think the t&c's said up to 3 months after hitting the min spend, but I might give them a call this week to check up about it I think

I cancelled my ANZ Qantas Black card about 6 months ago. The T&C for Black Rewards card suggest that I can still apply and get bonus points as long as I haven't held a Rewards card in the previous 12 months. The Qantas card seems to be viewed as a different product. Anyone had experience with same? Thanks.

I stuck more than that minimum on my first month and the bonus came straight through.

Keep this thread running at least up to Feb 26th to keep reminding me that ATO will work until then.

That's correct.

Anyone know if ATO spend qualifies as part of the $7,500 spend to get the bonus points? Spent quite a bit more than that last month, but the bonus points haven't posted and it seems some people it posts right after hitting the threshold, so want to make sure I'm covered as don't have a lot of other spend coming up...

Tks

Not sure about the ATO bit but no bonus points here with the 2nd statement having clocked up the qualifying $7,500 within 7 days of card activation.

AFAIK, ATO spend is not excluded in the T & C .... not until Feb 26 IIRC.

I'm patiently waiting.

So, not everyone gets the bonus points 'straight up' after the $7,500 spend
