ANZ Rewards Travel Adventure Card

I also need to see what the procedure is for refund of the free flight. I sent them an email on the 21st March. My flights are also for mid May so I will give them a call if i dont hear back before the end of April.

So crazy timing I heard back from Anz this morning.
‘Thank you for your patience during these extraordinary circumstances. Virgin will allow you to change or hold this ticket in credit and reissue in the future with no fees. Any fare and tax difference will still apply. The ticket needs to be reissued by 31st Dec 20, travel can be
booked up to 331 days from the date we reissue the ticket (example: you can ring us on 30th
Dec to book travel in October 2021).

At present your booking remains active. Please let us know if you wish to cancel and hold
the credit.

Let us know if we can help with anything else.’

fascinating condition! given ANZ pays a fairly low fee for this flight, I wonder how will a fare difference be calculated once we go to rebook.

my flight is in June, I havent even entertained the idea of contacting them yet. Just looked up my booking number and it says 'no found'

I cancelled my ANZ card back in March, 7 days before the Annual Fee was due. For whatever reason, I immediately cannot see the account in internet banking, nor can I see the Statements online. Nor do they Post the statements out. I actually have to contact them to request a statement reprint, which they will post or email..

Thats a litte annoying, and I imagine many wouldnt bother. But then upon request and receipt of the final statement, bingo, last transaction is a $170 annual fee, posted 7 days after I cancelled it. Seriously.

Sent online complaint with the appropriate level of niceness.

Thanks for the update. Very handy to know. So you emailed virgin directly? It will be very interesting to see what the fare difference will be.

Half of my booking had gone missing when I looked at it on virgin but I just emailed [email protected] with the booking number that Anz had sent me on their itinerary when I first booked flight through them. Hope that helps 🙂

Thought I share my recent ticketing experience which I thought was a great success!

Originally booked the ANZ comp flight for February although decided not to travel & as was within 24 hours, VA was able to take over Authority for the booking and rebooked until late May. There was a change fee of about $200 but saved the Travel Centre's re-booking admin fee.

With the Covid-19 situation, contacted the Travel Centre although confirmed the booking was still under VA authority so I contacted their call centre ( only 5 min wait ) and was offered a full travel bank credit of $597 which I thought was a sensational outcome so with the exclusion of the change fee, it seems ANZ paid about $400 PER - SYD.

So I've held one of these cards for a few years now and my annual fee is coming up. Considering that Virgin looks like it may struggle to survive the current situation and I have no international trips planned at least within the next year, is it worth me cancelling the card?

Alternatively is there any chance the annual fee would be lowered if Virgin's issues meant the complementary flight couldn't be fulfilled?

This card is great for OS travel but I don’t see the value if virgin don’t pull through.
I am yet to use my flight this year and would hope to see a credit for the annual fee if virgin doesn’t pull through.

Even if they do pull through, given you have a diminished window of 12 months to use your free flight, I wonder if there is any extension into the following year to use it?

Has anyone booked a flight since the whole travel lockdown? I still haven’t used my free flight and my renew date is May. I know VA is on shaky ground but I thought maybe I could speculatively book one as far out as possible. Better to have a sketchy booking than none at all. Does anyone know the maximum time between booking and flight dates? Is it 12 months? And is ANZ still taking bookings?

As soon as I book I’m going to cancel the card. I only use it OS and I suspect it will be a very long time before Australia opens its borders again.

I'm in a very similar position, my renew is June and I was strongly considering cancelling the card anyway after using my as yet not redeemed free flight...

ANZ have recently posted these FAQs which may be of assistance, but I would say that as the ANZ booking process seems to be very basic in my experience - where they just act as a TA booking through VA's portal - you could get them to book any eligible return trip that appears on VA's calendar, so 12 months out if wanted. The ANZ travel centre is still staffed and operating.

Given the tone of their responses to Qs like "what will ANZ do if VA can't fulfil my booking?", it may stand to reason to book the flights anyway as far in advance as you can, cancel the card if you don't need it anymore to avoid another annual fee, and then just sit back and see what happens. They may just treat it as a flight credit of sorts that you could use if ANZ change or evolve their alliance once there's a clearer picture of VA Mk II.

I'm hopeful they'll include everyone who has an impacted flight for a solution, and not just existing card holders at that point in time. I'd imagine as a mostly OS benefit based card that they'd have a decent percentage of cardholders not renewing due to Covid.

I booked my flight in early Feb for a trip on 31July-2Aug as so I could cancel the card before my March renewal and now I'm just seeing what happens. I agree with you that having even a booking on rocky ground is a better option than not making a booking at all before you cancel the card and then being eligible for nothing.

A shame that Virgin's offer for free changes ends on 30 September, as I'm looking at an October booking. Anyway, I think you are right - what value is there in the card with so much insecurity about what will occur going forward? We don't have any idea about what replacement benefits would/could be but it's really unlikely that it would involve a similar perk for the other airline mob. I still think booking a flight for some point in the future and cancelling the card will be the best play, if your annual fee is due in the coming months. Come back in 12 months if things look better...

I called ANZ travel regarding my 'free' Virgin tickets booked many months ago (just before the annual deadline for the free trip) - the flights should have been in June - clearly not going to happen - they gave me a dollar credit for the 'nominal' value of the flights which can be used for any flights I wish to book when travel opens up again (presumably only for Virgin Mark 2 but I did not specifically ask this). I was happy with this. While the value of the card is greatly diminished with no overseas travel in the foreseeable future and domestic travel still a few (or more months) away - I do not plan to cancel the card (except I cancelled another ANZ credit card when I got this one - felt no sense in having 2 ANZ cards even though the features of each were different).

Has anyone asked for Virgin Lounge passes during this time, what did they say?
I just realised i requested mine in Febuary, and never got them and then cancelled the card. May or may not be a waste of time bothering to chase that down.

what was the value they gave you? and for what route?
I have a BNE>SYD booked in June, they said they could give me a credit if I asked for it, but didnt say how much. So I emailed back 2 weeks ago asking how much, and they havent replied yet.

Route was SYD-CNS - value $316 (I think this was even on the original e-ticket which was issued). Lounge pass was mailed a week or so after I made the original booking.
