Watson isn't the worst batsman to lose. I can't see him ever playing a long innings to save/win a test.

Well there go his hopes of opening the bat, being 1st drop, 2nd drop, opening bowler, 1st change bowler, vice-captain, wicket keeper, captain, runner, 12th man, senior coach, channel nine commentator and sponsor of mediocre cosmetic products..all at the same time.

However England are only 202 ahead with 5 wickets in hand - see they sent jn the night watchman Bresnan. We need to mop them up quickly and bat well ourselves to take the test.
Eternal optimist.

Australia limped to 270 on a good batting wicket. You think they will get anywhere near that chasing a total?

I don't know if it's that great a wicket going by how the runs have been ground out rather slowly. It's not a minefield but it doesn't look easy to score on. That said Australia seems to chase totals of 250ish better than 100!

You can pretty much say Bell has been the difference between the sides. For all the much-vaunted batting line up of England, only Bell and to a much lesser extent, Pietersen, have fired with Root getting lucky and the other guys not getting much at all. I thought Cook would be the biggest worry in this series. It probably shows our bowlers have been fairly good with England not topping 400 in the series yet. Let's hope they don't start tonight.

Oh it would be so nice to win one! (eternal optimist...)

Don't disagree on the wicket but I think we are looking at a couple of mediocre batting sides as well.. Only Bell looks the business. The bowling has not been too shabby from either side.

For the first night of any Test, I am stuck at the office without a TV in sight :(

Have to use cricinfo to update myself or ABC Radio on the way home (around 9pm).

That's better knock over the stumps. I'm surprised England didn't appeal to Dar to say they weren't watching so shouldn't be out. Shirley, he would have overturned it.

i'm sure shirley would have done!

Harris is a great bowler. A shame his career has been plagued by injuries.

Now for the weather to save Australia....

Australia have been set 299 to win. Doable and just over 5 sessions to do it.

Dig in and do not throw away your wicket....

Can you not stream it off the ABC radio website?

Broadly speaking that was quite a collapse by Australia's batters. Some may need to choose new occupations if they fail in the fifth test.

Sadly, iPad doesn't have Foxtel Go on it - didn't have time to watch it anyway. Turned it on after Q&A and sadly the weather intervened. Went to bed 0/12 just as the covers were coming off.

Glad to see that the openers finally succeeded, but we needed the middle order to kick...but they stubbed their toes instead.

Looks like Siddle tried a rearguard action but nobody stayed with him. Will be interested to see the highlights.
