ATO Credit Card Points Summary

yes self employed. I've had a couple of instant approvals over the years which is why the BOM signature was such a shock. Infact first time I've been declined !!
This happened to me in the past with Westpac, however a simple call and chat to the CSR turned them around. On that occasion all they required was a copy of the most recent tax return and my accountant's number.

Gave them these and then they declined, didn't even call the accountant

Awww really? I tried that when my ANZ was declined within a business day. Called up customer service, asked them to see if my application could be reviewed and they came back to me after speaking to someone and said no. I've given up on ANZ.

I mentioned earlier that my NAB premium cycle isn't until 16th so I couldn't verify if points were being awarded, but a client with a cycle to 25th has just advised he got full points on the transactions last month.

Yep understood .I got declined for Bank of Mel signature...nearly fell off my seat when the letter arrived. So just applied for NAB velocity premier at lunch time, approved immediately!! Mysteries of the modern world

So we've confirmed that NAB Velocity/Qantas Plat Amex still pays 1.5 pts per $1 on ATO spend?

Happened with me when I tried applying for the direct Amex Platinum Edge. Shrugged and took out the Krisflyer Westpac Amex instead (before it got nuked). I certainly couldn't figure out how I got rejected for one and accepted for the other within 1 week

Westpac Platinum Kris Flyer Amex still works for ATO if you got it prior to Westpac closing off new applicants. Going forward you will get less miles at 1.25 miles for a 1.45% charge. This is less but still ok for premium travel.

Talking about credit cards and limits it took 4 months to get a limit increase from Citi and it was an epic struggle. Of course this card is no good for ATO at all but just be aware that credit cards can pose problems from time to time.

Ahh they told me 6 months between credit limit increases :( How did you manage 4 months, unless that's a prestige perk?

I've never had any trouble with Citi increases. In fact they just gave me a 20k bump over the phone

My Citi limit is now 100k and I have not bothered starting to get Mrscove's limit up to the same level. I think someone misplaced the documents I sent them. 160k is probably enough for the non ATO spending and I have the cards on autopay.

So what's the shortest interval between credit limit increases anyone has had?
I need to increase the missus Plat limit so I can transfer it to Signature. It sucks earning at 1.25pt/$ with 2pts:1KF.

You can re-load that card more than once in a month but that can become tiresome unless you love Krug in SQ Suites I think.

Citi often can give you bum steers when you call them so I really try hard not to call them other than to transfer points.

I have gone through the thread and haven't seen any recent posts on ANZ black Visa
Im about to pay with this
do you still get points
I have checked on the website and seems you.
Can anyone confirm.
just wondering if government charges mean ATO

  1. (a) Points will not accrue in relation to interest charges, premiums paid for ANZ Credit Card Insurance, government charges, bank fees, Card account adjustments resulting from disputed transactions or otherwise, Balance Transfers, cash advances and Cash Equivalent Transactions.

ANZ Black Amex could be a safer option seeing we know you get 1.5 points for a cost just under a cent each.

So you are saying that Amex black ANZ def gets the points but not sure if the visa does?
But have to pay 1.5% which is a lot.
whereas .48 for .75 a better deal don't you think? but the first question would be do I get any points.
Do I have my math correct?

Not quite. If you already have many, many points then 0.42% for Visa and MasterCards would work at half a point a dollar as that cost could be 0.84 cents per real Frequent Flyer point. Going Amex in ANZ version gets you 1.5 points per dollar at 1.45% so more points for about 0.97 cents. Then you may be able to tax deduct the cost but your accountant /tax agent would answer that.
You can then use these points for upgrades or outright redemptions and achieve between 4 and 10 cents a point of retail value.
