Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I just got home and saw the news about the AU government members both infected and exposed which of course is a huge blow when we need consistent and calm leadership.

We can only hope our leaders don’t have pre-existing conditions or complications and recover quickly.

I also hope they set an example of how those exposed should behave, or at the very least have explainable contingency in place.

The big question now coming up is the role that the US is playing (or not depending on how you flip it) in this unfortunate situation...

no worries anytime, there is a record ;)
Nah, seriously. It's all good there. I don't have any concerns with people I can have an honest discussion with. And amaroo is one of those. We don't agree with each other some of the time but it's a fact based discussion and not a personal one. And that comment applies to the majority of posters here. I very much appreciated what he did earlier and I suspect some of that was behind the scenes.

Ummmm I know but not only peoples health - the health of our leaders - He met with cabinet. Hopefully they were maintaining good hygiene and social distance.

None of the cabinet were in contact with Dutton in the 24 hours prior to him developing symptoms. From the ABC:
Mr Dutton was in Sydney for a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday and returned to Brisbane on a commercial flight on the same day.

"In advice provided to the Prime Minister this evening, the deputy chief medical officer has reiterated that only people who had close contact with the Minister in the preceding 24 hours before he became symptomatic need to self-isolate," a spokesperson for Prime Minister Scott Morrison said.

"That does not include the Prime Minister or any other members of the Cabinet."

Mr Morrison will not be tested for COVID-19, based on medical advice.

That particular post was deleted and so you wouldn't have seen it. Now that was a nasty post.

I didn’t see the post but I can have a decent guess as to its origin.

Goodness knows I can have some disagreements here and sometimes the temperature gets raised, just a smidgen ( 🙂😇) but a psyche that produces the just plain nasty comments mystifies me.

I disagree.

Anyone truly "monitoring the situation' would have realised weeks ago that there is a rapid development globally of canning any events. The fact that some hold to the aspiration of a 2020 Olympics just shows how some people try to foster their own interests in the face of even a tidal wave of woe....
I think the ultimate failure to read the situation would have to be the Australian F1 GP - they seemed like they were on a different planet

Sure but there is a big difference between canning an event the week before it occurs and 4 months off? We know this week/month will be a problem but who really knows what's going to be the case in July?

The detailed posts over on the Japanese thread tells the story.

The way the VIC gov and F1 handled the GP was just ugly - complete failure of commonsense. Even if you use the TDS scale - it tops them all.

Three new cases in WA who had travelled from USA, Canada & Jakarta

Western Australia has seen three more confirmed cases of COVID-19 overnight.

The affected people include two males and one female, aged in their 30s to 50s.

They have travelled from the United States, Canada, and Jakarta, Indonesia.

Yesterday, the Health Department confirmed five more cases of coronavirus in Western Australia.

All from the USA? I read it as one from each of USA, Canada & Jakarta.

This timing is difficult - many many aussies I assume are still thinking they will go on a Bali or similar holiday for Easter. My personal belief is that such belief bubbles will be burst before that time arrives. Did anyone two days ago predict that NZ would impose a blanket 14 day quarantine on travellers? No. Who would travel to Bali if they knew they would be essentially locked up for a couple of weeks upon return to australia?

A few will decide based on whether their travel insurance covers them for cancelling... if it doesn't they will probably go
