Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

A few will decide based on whether their travel insurance covers them for cancelling... if it doesn't they will probably go

I must disagree here- people have to learn, super-quick, that this is an event where things change by the hour. The insurance company may tell them that they are not covered for a cancellation - but if Australia does what NZ has done and imposes a mandatory two week isolation event on return, would they still travel? I am expecting that people who suffer these quarantine necessities will not want to travel to Bali to drink cheap beer for a week to be followed by two weeks somewhere they can not get a cup of strong tea....

And with that I totally agree. We can afford to take a hit which we will do. I am hanging out for a DNT. And will cancel the night before in any case. Others don't have that luxury.

You are in for a surprise.

You are in for a surprise.

Surprise? I doubt it.

I am sure, no, certain, that many will believe in their travel plans up to the last minute.

But will that ignorance be removed from them by force - yes - most likely.

Our dear PM was very proudly telling packed media circuses yesterday that he would be going to the footy. Today, he isn't.

A great mass of people going to Bali will still go unless the Government makes it easy ($) for them to cancel. At this point in time, they haven't. I'd hope that families might think about it, I'm not sure that's true.

Suspect the Gov would be more likely just mimic what NZ did.

If our new cases keep coming mainly from incoming travellers, or from people they meet, then that becomes more and more likely.

Respectfully Pushka, I do not think that will be happening.

This whole Corona thing is novel to almost everyone. People are still even just pondering if it "may" affect their future travel, when the reality is that Australia will, just like every other country, start to impose a series of ever tighter lockdowns. They just have no clue about how real this thing is.

I am expecting that most australian schools will close down in the next week. Call me an alarmist, or whatever, but this whole thing is developing dramatically every day. Why on earth do we as aussies think that we are any different situation to the Iranians or Italians? The only real difference is just a few days...

If you really want to go to Bali, re-book for something 3+months in the future when the pandemic makes travel embargoes meaningless..

I think that although our IDENTIFIED cases may still have a relationship to incoming travellers, this little virus has wormed it's way behind those screening attempts.

You have a more positive outlook on Bali travellers than I do. I've been there. More times than I can count. Before and after both bombings. and eaten in two restaurants that were attacked. And we took the kids. Of course there will be those who cancel. Like us. Although we will not travel we will suffer a financial loss if we do so, so it will be a last minute cancel. But there is a huge "she'll be right mate" contingency and because Indo is doing weird things with their reporting, on the face of it, they are right. And that is why the Govt needs to stop travel there, right now, before the sh@t hits the fan in April (Easter and school holidays). Benevolent dictatorship. Don't Travel there.

Have you considered that if you close the schools then you wipe out a large proportion of health professionals who work front line in the hospitals? They will be caring for their kids who are now at home.

I just re-read my posts to comprehend why I could have a "positive" outlook on Bali. And I could not find it. Bali is a den of all sorts of problems.

The Indonesian government is perhaps one of the worst, globally, when it comes to Corona virus. I have been harping on for weeks that Bali is infested.

Blame alcohol. I am. Given the loss of sport for the next few weeks, movie release etc deferred then there is nothing but alcohol. Mental stress/lack of relief is going to be at an all time high in oncoming weeks.

As of noon today, the ACT had tested 1037 people. only 1 positive case.
The 17 close contacts with the infected NSW traveler at the 28 Feb ADF meeting exited isolation yesterday. All tested negative.

Customer at work today freaked out upon seeing me put up item limit notices on the pasta and flour, claiming that the virus was "everywhere". Was unable to comprehend what the actual situation is when presented with the facts.

Tom Hanks and His partner Ms Wilson have sure spread the virus around Australian media identities right now.

This is a worry for communities though. And I thought the official line was that it is only 24 hours before symptoms. So either that has proved to be malleable o r the source of the infection was somewhere else. : Eddie Mabo's granddaughter tests positive after sharing flight with Peter Dutton

Queensland prisoner advocate Debbie Kilroy and Eddie Mabo's granddaughter, activist Boneta-Marie Mabo, have both tested positive to COVID-19 after sharing a flight with Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton.

Ms Kilroy confirmed on Monday morning she and Ms Mabo had tested positive, posting to social media that they were the first infected people being quarantined in the community. "We are not being hospitalised as there’s limited beds," she tweeted.

Returned from OZ to NZ about a 6 weeks ago. Developed a sore throat and slight fever after 48 hours, enough to keep me at home for a couple of days. This was before all talk of self-isolation. Seems to have been a short term cold. What would happen to me now; 14 days isolation??? I've been back to OZ twice since then, no recurrence.
