Susan MacDonald ? Fed Parliamentarian - has now tested positive. Another politician. She has self isolated.

And it's the news but I hope it's true

"One of the two medications is a HIV drug, which has been superseded by “newer generation” HIV drugs, and the other is an anti-malaria drug called chloroquine which is rarely used and “kept on the shelf now” due to resistance to malaria. " I'm already on chloroquine for lupus.

Hopefully the drugs are cheap or off patent given that.
Was a little concerned that the appearance on 7News seemed to be more about raising $s to the hospital Foundation.
If it's a viable solution surely the govt should be funding rapid trials.

Chloroquine is dirt cheap. 100 tabs is $23 on no benefits. It does take a few weeks to kick in for auto immune issues though.

Wait for off-market prescription to go through the roof
Dammit. I was wondering if this 'discovery' would lead to short supply for those of us already on it - sure enough. Now I'll have to stock up!

At least its only available on script. I think by a specialist. I hope so.

No Pushka you are on Hydroxychloroquine which is not necessarily going to work for this virus.chloroquine is basically unavailable in Australia-believe me I tried to source it.

No the use in China wasn't a medical trial so you can not rely on that. Also reports from Seatle on a couple of cases.
But just as with a vaccine we need evidence that it is a real effect not just a chance observation.A proper trial is needed.

The Brit article mentions what I'm on. Hydroxychloroquine.

"Hydroxychloroquine is an aminoquinoline derivative which acts as an anti-infective and antirheumatic agent. It is marketed for rheumatoid arthritis, discoid and systemic lupus erythematosus and juvenile idiopathic arthritis and is manufactured as film-coated tablets for oral administration."

Yes but it is old fashioned Chloroquine which was used in China not plaquenil.you can't assume it would have the same effect.

Yes.. but faced with no treatment options one might take a chance ?

We are going to use hydroxychloroquine + kaletra (which I am reassured is in good supply) probably as part of David Patterson’s trial. Chloroquine is available by sas, so won’t be here anytime soon. I understand China ordered 300000 doses from India.

I need to fill a repeat.

Gotta smile… a friend sent me a funny meme reminding us all to find a thermometer that had not been up a horses anus..
All mine had been there done that.. so I asked management about supplies in the humans residence
Just now I could hear this bumping and banging around in the laundry and swmbo has just presented me with a nice new analogue thermometer AND an unopened pack of Tamiflu…….Use by date….. 05/09…….. :)

So 75 new Australian Cases today.

If that acceleration keeps up you would expect the 500 gathering to be dropped down dramatically and bars/pubs etc to start being closed.

Hopefully the 12 day isolation for new arrivals can start to bite, but it is going to depend very much now on how many transmission infected our out beond those be traced.

The 75 though could also be from more testing though (ie just better detection of who is infected)...here's hoping.

Relative tested Saturday. Niece who was with unwell Swiss business associates who were new arrivals. Isolated. She has 2 children - both unable to go to school until result came through. Her brother who is at SA Air Force base also had to withdraw from work.
Test negative. Resume stations.

Second one was our EA. She has a 5 year old and was unwell. Dr said she had the flu only as she had no other reason to consider Covid. Not isolated. Not tested.

How does one get people to take this seriously and be sensible?

Girlfriend was tested over the weekend as returned from overseas <14 days ago and had some symptoms of COVID-19. Results back negative, but said she was going to stay away from the office anyway and work from home. Smart decision as she has quite bad asthma (regularly has prednisolone doses). Woke up to a message that she went in to the office this morning. When I asked why, there wasn't one.

Anyone going to the office who can reasonably work from home is putting themselves and others in danger unnecessarily - do we need the slow, reactive (not proactive) government to tell us what to do all the time?

I wish I could work from home. Alas, the nature of my work means I have to be at the office and there is no way around that.

It seems we have some Quinine sulphate tabs and a repeat that we will fill this morning.
Prescribed for cramp but we will try it out if things get messy

Of course one could also get stuck into the tonic water.
Cheap stuff has little quinine but there is goodstuf about with some content.

Exec summary .. G&T's are now quite therapeutic…...
