Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

It appears many went out straight away to get tested and ended up being turned away. They had until saturday which is what the government must have needed to get the testing centres up and running to cope with the numbers. Forcing people to drive out of the area to other centres would have been something I would have thought they would need to avoid.

Just watching the new this morning. Huge delays and reports of some people waiting waiting 6 hours before being turned away.

Huge queues again this morning. So no possibility for people to getting tested on the way to work.

One thing I'd like to know is if receipts are being received by those who actually got a test.

So sad there are Day 1 hurdles. Hope police and employers are understanding and don't turn people away. This would be stressful for those affected.

Son in law has just advised that yikes this may now include me/us :(

There were 2 technicians working at Caltex Kalkallo which as of last night has now been designated a tier 1 exposure site at the time the removalists were there.

Son in law, who is temporarily living with us, has worked with one of those technicians on Monday. So is now isolating at work awaiting further DHHS advice for himself and all others at his workplaces.

We are now isolating till he he hears back on what his close contacts need to be doing.

Vic DHHS have now confirmed that son in law , and so in turn us, do not need to take any special measure.

However my wife as she was visiting her mother in aged care facility yesterday (who has medical issues) decided "from an abundance of caution "" and her own peace of mind to go and get tested anyway. So that will have us in isolation till the test result comes back in 8 hours or so.

Well we will soon see if today's leaks are factual. Yesterday they were accurate.

NSW Presser : 97 community cases. 24 infectious in the community.

97 cases, 21? loose in the community. Focus switching from fairfield to further s/w.

24 non-isolating while infectious, 7 partly isolating while infectious, 6 to be determined. The non-isolating and partly isolating numbers are what is aimed for to be zero

60 cases fully isolating while infectious

On a further point, 138 cases still under investigation as to source, but to date still (edit: typo - all) that have been investigated as to source have all linked.

Yes so potentially upto 37 people who may have been infectious in the community.

7 new positive cases associated with City of Hume and removalist.

4 positive cases in the apartments, all on the same floor the removalists working on. 1 man in his 60’s, 1 family group. All other residents negative at this stage. The parents of the man in his 60’s have also tested positive (very old).

He was in the members reserve for the Carlton/Geelong game, about 2000 contacts identified.

Potential exposures at highpoint, Friday 10th July as a starting point.

Just announce a lockdown - now.

2000 contacts means many more second ring.

@kpc I noticed you are on top of NSW health worker requirements, but this is to anyone else currently in NSW health care. I heard there is a rumour of mandatory routine (asymptomatic) weekly testing for NSW (Sydney lockdown zone) healthcare workers. Is anyone else hearing the same rumour?

Vic Presser: Also just confirmed that the removalist firm is still not being as forthcoming as Jeroen Weimar would like. Weimar also indicated that the freight industry were also disappointed by the lack of compliance in this instance.

Vic Presser.

The man in his 60's is a neighbour of the apartment that the removalists went to. This person attended the Geelong Carlton Game at the MCG

The customers of the removalists are both in HQ. Both not positive.

Weimar indicated that the reports are that the removalists were not wearing masks at the apartment building, which was in breach of their requirement to do so.

Sikh volunteers were already as of yesterday delivering free cooked meals to the residents. This group of volunteers have been very active in supporting affected people throughout the pandemic and are in my view to be congratulated on their community spirit.

The good news is that it means they’ll be vaccinated.

So… we can literally bring the country to a standstill because of one hire car driver and a couple of removal bros. Are we prepared to admit that Australia has failed and we need a new approach

It is not a rumour. It is happening at Fairfield Hospital....just spoke to a colleague who was tested yesterday but does not live in the Fairfield LGA but works at Fairfied Hospital

NSW website on mandatory testing apparently updated

Fairfield COVID-19 tests

If you live in or are staying in the Fairfield local government area but you work outside this area, you must have a COVID-19 test once every 72 hours (3 days) in order to be allowed to enter a workplace.

You must get tested as soon as possible.

Find a COVID-19 testing clinic

You have until the end of Friday 16 July 2021 to get tested so you can work outside the Fairfield local government area.

So unfortunate to have a fixed 11am press conference to hear the pragmatic backflip to have delayed introduction.

The mandatory testing comes into effect from the weekend

Gladys Berejiklian said of the new mandate for essential workers to get tested every three days:

"In relation to the new testing requirements put in for workers yesterday, can I just make this point, those requirements come into effect from the weekend.
"Please know that if you have symptoms, you shouldn't be going to work, you should be getting tested and going home until you get the help and advice.
"But if you are a worker who has no symptoms, and you are carrying out essential work, it's okay for you to get tested where your work base is, near your workplace, to take pressure off the testing clinics in the local government area.
"We have put on extra staff and facilities but in order to ease traffic congestion and pressure, if you are a worker with no symptoms but no option but to go to work and you are leaving Fairfield, you can get tested near where your work place is and there are over 400 testing clinics where people can get access however we want to stress, you should not be leaving home unless you absolutely have to, not just in those communities but anywhere across the stay-at-home area."

I think the mandatory testing also applies to people who live outside Fairfield LGA but work in Fairfield LGA - well that's what I'm lead to understand based on AFF discussion.

Edit: I can't see the NSW website (I haven't looked for the actual health orders) saying people from outside Fairfield LGA working in Fairfield LGA need to do mandatory testing - so perhaps this thread was previously misinformed.

First, 'the country' is not being brought to a standstill.

Second, as far as Australia 'failing' is concerned, just have a look at our record during the pandemic compared to just about every other country in the world. I still regard it as a great success in dealing with it, both from health point of view and an economic point of view. Not perfect, but a long, long way from failure.

Some of my relatives live in Fairfield area. I will call them to see how they are doing .....

So I spoke with one of my relatives in Fairfield area last night, they were ok but were angry with all the rule breakers.

They hardly go out, except for the daughter who works at one of the hospital at Sydney LGA (and yes she cannot be working from home). She has been nicely asked to take a week off. She said yes.
