Qld: 3 new local cases.

12 y/o child who quarantined in Sydney and flew to Qld 9/7 (and one of their parents) accounts for 2 of them.

NSW Health investigating positive case at cancer treatment facility

NSW Health is investigating a suspected coronavirus case at the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, a cancer treatment facility near RPA Hospital in Sydney’s inner-west.

It comes after COVID cases at Westmead and Liverpool hospitals.

The ABC understands a nurse at Westmead Hospital returned a positive test on Tuesday, while a patient from Liverpool Hospital was also diagnosed with the virus.

More to come

Anna telling Queenslanders to leave Victoria immediately

LOL She should also be telling Queenslanders to leave Queensland immediately ;) VIC will probably send QLD back to the red sin bin shortly anyway.

Dr Young had a good smell of Sydney's sewage again she reported but she strongly recommended all QLD'ers return from NSW immediately as well.

A nurse has tested positive in Sydney. :(
was fully vaccinated.

Not a surprise.
Wasn't it something like over 4000 Victorian healthcare workers got infected in their big outbreak, despite all the PPE protections.

Even at 95% efficacy of a vaccine, it still would have been in the hundreds
(Probably under 200 as undoubtedly some caught it from fellow workers rather than patients)

NSW 65 cases and 28 in community.

More warnings about idiots not going to the chemist feeling unwell instead of getting tested

Bit of non-AUS side note, but UK 40,000 cases & 49 deaths o/night I just heard.
(may well get higher post Freedom day)

Now if this what reasonably high vac rate equals I think we need to accept these type of figures on a pro-rata to our pop. 25k cases & 35 deaths maybe.

I could live with this, especially if the deaths are generally above 80yo & mostly unvaccinated. Now I may be shot down saying that, heartless etc, but I see that as new normal, if I can say that. sorry to offend anybody.

Reaching 90% vac rate would obviously further lower those figures.

I am not offended. This is a conversation that needs to be had. And respectfully.

Interesting the comment from the NSW Health Minister, reports of employers telling employees that they are 'essential' and must come into the office to work.... when arguably they are 'not' and could work from home.

And this is where England hospitalisations are going. Bear in mind these are lagging AND Freedom Day is expected to lead to much higher case numbers than current.

Which is why I raised the lack of definition of what is an essential worker after Hazzard's recent statement of leaving it to the employer. That was always going to lead to more employees than should be the case moving about.

A conversation that has to be had. 35 deaths/day across the whole year would put this as #3 cause of death (behind coronary heart disease and dementia). Not sure if too many would be willing to accept that. If it were say <15/day it really starts moving down the list in importance. There's also a discussion around "why should we help you, if you don't help yourself" (regarding the unvaccinated). Some leaders have already started that conversation (although not using those exact words).

He's useless. Asked a question about how retail employees can work from home. Answers that "we need less people moving around". So......

We live in an age where we have become so over-protective that we cannot tolerate making decisions that lead to death. We have learnt to accept deaths from flu as a background reality. I was at a meeting in RPA a couple of years ago when the management mentioned that had reached full capacity because of the virulent flu that year. But there were no lockdowns because people generally accept the reality of the "flu season".

But in regards to Covid, governments are having to decide when they allow this new disease to become a regular part of our lives, like flu. They will be criticised for being too slow, too quick, causing deaths directly and indirectly, killing the economy and much more. Government will be gun shy, and we are going to see that play out here perhaps more than anywhere given our low levels of Covid infections compared to most other countries.
