Is that really surprising being the second highest state by population with one of the highest prevalence rates of diabetes which has clearly been identified as highly vulnerable cohort for Covid complications? Plus of course their reluctance to follow any sort of health guidance re: distancing etc

I don’t know if you are on the USA Dr Covid groups but the stuff coming out of Texas right now isn’t pretty. If it continues it won’t be long before it’s New York all over again

However there is another event that also may explain a number of the increase in Texas.The elephant in the room.George Floyd died on 25/6.In Texas that day 623 new cases a day and the number had started to trend down.
7 days later-1688 cases.
14 days later-2504 cases.
I really don't think you can blame all the increase on relaxing lockdown measures.

I don't think Ardern is naive on this at all. She's simply declaring her red lines. It may be politically unpalatable for some in Australia to contemplate a partial opening across the ditch, but this makes it clear that's our problem not their problem. She's indifferent to the bubble , especially before September 19. And bear in mind that everything she is saying right now is for the benefit of a domestic audience.

But there really was a strong belief that their approach was the right approach for their economy too. They were really considering that. And things stayed mostly open. There was no real lock down etc.

Tegnell admits there have been failures. One of the relatively few government directives was to lock down aged care facilities. He concedes the order came too late and casualties have been high — of the 5,000 deaths, 88 per cent have been people aged over 70, many of them in retirement homes.

Still, that means that 12% or 600 deaths were people aged under 70. For a country with approximately half the population of Australia.

The announcement was that borders will not open on 20 July as previously announced. A further announcement regarding NSW and ACT residents will be made "in due course".

I reckon NSW and the ACT will be exempt.
SA also pretty sneakily enacted another 28 days of State of Emergency so SAPOL and SA Health will be effectively running the state.

I notice Gladys has also reiterated her call to ban Victorians from homes and businesses and that they will be banned from purchasing tickets to sporting games

So there's no border closures between NSW and Vic. But if you're Victorian you can't stay in NSW or shop there or eat there or work there or attend events there or...

But the most important thing is that the border is not closed to you. You are welcome, except for all the areas where you are not. Don't you love politics?

The Queensland border opening decision is teetering on a knife edge. I wonder if the back-room boys in AP's re-election bunker are contemplating a new slogan. 'We will build a wall along our southern border and we will make NSW pay for it'.
