Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

825 new cases and only 3 deaths. The case numbers are irrelevant now, as we are not seeing an upwards trend in deaths, which is good news and shows vaccines are our way to living with Covid.

We should also stop calling them “cases”. They are positive test results. Few of the 825 will develop into illness.
NSW positivity rate is 0.66% of tests - I guess another new record.

And I believe the positivity rate in other developed countries during “outbreaks” was 20-30%. We’re not even close to being in a bad place.

Protest article

From my quick read - Melbourne winning (ie bigger protest established) at the moment.

So they dislike lock downs so much they are willing to risk being locked up.

Has anybody mentioned the protest currently happening in Melbourne.
Watching along on a Facebook live stream. It's only down the road but have no interest in heading down there to look for myself. Looks like a pretty significant number of people to be honest. Easily in the thousands.

It has boiled over in Melbourne. Capsicum spray going everywhere. Restraint will not be in large supply, judging by the tensions.

I was wondering what happens with most cases. Any doctors care to comment. Do most turn into something like the flu, or nothing, or something else? I know it makes some people very sick, but what of the others?

Without it necessarily being applicable here, couldn't the same be said of most of the nastier government takeovers around the world.

I just found a video of it. If it is the same today may explain why I seen know police cars anywhere else

Well it looks like half the states police are in cbd to prevent a non existant protest

It will be interesting to see of case numbers explode like Sydney in 3-4 weeks.

In any case, time to restrict SYD arrivals to NSW residents (or provide 'red flight' connections).

No point wasting a HQ spot for someone when they're going to have to redo HQ in their destination state.

Because NSW Hotels are for NSW.

Probably time to stop HQ after Day 3 for anyone testing negative an Day 2, and let them isolate at home or suitable accommodation. So what if a couple of those test positive 10 days later, even they broke the rules to isolate at home? In the context of the number of cases in the community there is very little incremental risk.

The Melbourne protest is pretty big and very few are wearing masks. This will be another spreading event.

The photo of well-distanced folk waiting for vaccinations at Perth Convention Centre attracted so many posts from Melbourne tweeters because many people in a room not wearing masks was so alien to them and gave them the heebie-geebies. I guess those young people are not going to be at the protest, or they will definitely be wearing masks if they do go.
all i could find easily

imagine there are a bunch of people live streaming but youtube shadowbanning it ?

The biggest determinant of whether or not you get sick is if you have been vaccinated. In those fully vaccinated they rarely get sick, might have some symptoms but unlikely to need medical care.

In the unvaccinated we are still learning but it’s looking likely that the variant of disease is more severe, does lead to more hospitalizations. Some data from UK showing it’s twice as likely for you to be admitted to hospital with Delta than with a different strain.

Some figures from NSW
Active cases currently 9573
In out of hospital care 674
In hospital in the home 1018
In hospital 516
In ICU 85
Ventilated 29

The figures for Hospital in the home are only up until 18th August so they will be a bit higher now my apologies.

Doctors are like pilots. Each will tell you their opinion and insist it’s right. It makes administration challenging…

One explained it to me recently (and again, take it as an opinion), consider it like glandular fever. Most children are exposed to and can carry infectious mononucleosis, however it rarely develops into illness with most being asymptomatic.

A question is when Victoria gives up on covid-zero would they release some more contentious restrictions for example curfew......???
80% vaxxed, Dan said it in today’s presser.

in effect Covid zero is already gone, it’s now a race to 80% and an end to the more draconian restrictions, but we’re still likely to have things like indoor masking it seems.

news.com.au poll

Are you breaking lockdown rules?
12% Yes, as much as I can get away with
14% Yes but only ay a 'low level'
57% No, never
17% I'm lucky enough not to be in lockdown

Over 22,000 votes

If my maths is right 26%/83% = 31% non-compliance.

So vast majority complying would equate to about 69%.
