Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

The website is “interesting”. Same authors have written another couple of pieces advocating for herd immunity here with mRNA vaccines before we open up international borders etc.

Not surprised The Guardian ran with it. Hopefully it will get some robust debunking soon enough.
The desperate few still clinging to COVID zero will give it a good run. Could be the last play in the book...

There is some hope

Premier Steven Marshall commits to opening SA borders once vaccination rates reached

Premier Steven Marshall has committed to reopening SA’s borders once vaccine targets are hit – despite fears from other states about the spread of the Delta strain.

I assume that means SA is binning their CHO’s powers soon and setting them alight :) 🤪

Well, there are rumours that the emergency power will be extended into April 😫 but that is after the state election. But the ground swell is a little more towards intelligent opening up rather than restrictions. The comment 'start to enjoy wearing a mask' - and not in an ironic manner but actually meaning that, probably has sparked a change in sentiment. I'd say we have 99% compliance on mask wearing here, even though 🙏🏻 we currently have no community transmission.

I have always had every confidence that the SA CHO will recommend opening up once vaccination rates hit 110%.

All jokes aside, SA and Tasmania quite simply cannot afford to deviate from the national plan as recipents of significant horizontal fiscal equalisation grants. They both have liberal governments.

If the NT or ACT tries, the Commonwealth will just override them if required - the NT in particular is basically an outsourced Commonwealth department with an elected board, almost all of their funding comes from Canberra. They are treated like states but when push comes to shove they have no power if the Commonwealth deems it so.

Vic will open up to save Daniel Andrews being the premier that loses Melbourne both the F1 Grand Prix and the Australian Open in his term.

WA and Queensland are the interesting ones.

AP just moved the goalpost to opening. “Every person who is eligible for a vaccine must be offered it”

But lots of “I haven’t seen the modelling“

It's disgraceful. I'm surprised the tourism industry (or what's left of it) hasn't been applying the blow torch today after the PM's discovery of some backbone yesterday.
If flights start internationally soon from NSW they’re in for a tough time even if they’re opened up. As much as I love Queensland it’s still Australia with Coffee Clubs on every corner.

Well in solidarity today, both NSW and VIC numbers are down.

No deaths in NSW, 6 million jabs reached. Good news.

And my SIL who does vaccines in SA vaccination hub is very grateful she doesn’t have to see 50 bottoms a day.
Imagine drive through testing in China. Didn't they do cough testing as well as nasal swabs, may get 50 bottoms sticking out of drivers side car windows.
