Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

But it might be if daily cases really go through the roof in NSW. Let's wait and see...
As long as people look at the severity of the disease and not simple incidence. 105 yesterday in SA and 150 today. Most through community infection, a small percent from interstate and international arrivals barely registered. No one in ICU and just 5, one being someone in the nineties, in hospital.

Doubtful, NSW has largely moved on. Only if we see ICU cases much higher than the Delta peak would some take any notice.

NSW, Vic and the ACT should be excellent test cases for this. There are few other jurisdictions in the world as large as the three with such high vaccination rates. If the sky isn’t falling in after 4ish weeks, then we’ll know we’re done with this charade.

We've got our whole lives to live with this. 4 weeks doesn't prove anything - we need 12 months to prove we can live with it - and just how sustainability we can live with it. As Europe is finding out vaccine efficacy wanes after a few months - lets see how we go through winter.

Enough simple incidence may bring the country to its knees.
The positives , mildly unwell and relaxing at home on sick leave while the trains planes buses trucks hospi… all languish with minimal staff.
Folks take their services for granted, they are after all entitled to service, woosy excuses like being ill from covid won't cut the mustard at all.
I might just get a bit of extra toilet paper this week…just in case...

Europe is not a great benchmark - look at their vaccine rates before putting too much stock in that, ours are much higher - and ‘fresher’.

Parts of Europe are low - but many countries have rates much the same as Australia (Particularly for Adult populations). Portugal / Ireland to name a couple that are ramping up restrictions.

Fresher indeed - hence my point around lets see what happens when winter comes around - why the states are pushing for the interval to be reduced.

There are certainly things that have not been anticipated especially over this festive season. We have one sub specialty unit now in Quarantine as deemed close contacts when at a local restaurant for their Christmas function. In General Medicine though we have a back up unit already quarantining voluntarily in case of one of the operating units being taken out.

How was this not anticipated.... are Tasmanian HCP's immune from Covid....? If so, share the secret sauce :)
C'mon, they've had more than enough time to figure this stuff out

Sounding like VIC government to mandate masks for all indoor settings including work places plus outdoors in some circumstances such as sporting events

So glad we all got vaccinated :):):)

Outdoor mask wearing is an absurdity, I thought we were done with that ridiculous decree.

Needing to wear a mask outside (something that has never ever been required in NSW) is a turn off to visiting Victoria. At some point you need to be able to breathe some fresh air.

Not set in stone yet. Besides it was mentioned in context of sporting events, i.e. when concentrated in crowds often under shelter and with limited airflow vs just strolling outside or sitting down for a picnic etc.

Lucky for them it's Christmas on Saturday. But then there is always Sunday, I can see the protests going for record numbers if they do it.
