Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I am now completely disillusioned with government if this advice forms in to policy.

My brother put it rather well. There comes a point where if you can't live with an infectious virus in society, perhaps it's time to stop society entirely.

Wouldn't it depend on what that policy is?

I'm not sure the two outliers (WA at one end, NSW at the other) have got it right, and the answer lies somewhere in the middle.

Has anyone done the math on that…? That would mean the entire country in a couple of months….
I wonder if they meant 200,000 active cases? 200K daily in our population, with our vaccination status, demographics and divide is basically unfathomable. At its Delta worst; India and its population of 1.38B (~50 x ours) recorded 412K on a day. Does anyone really believe Australia would ever see half of that number?!

Cheers,
Matt.

Yes. Surprises me masks were ditched in NSW. While I hate them there is a fundamental reason to wear them now. Small inconvenience

I found most people are still wearing it indoors even it is not mandated.

That's good to hear. Son and diL continued to wear them in UK even though they were ditched back in July but of course are back now.

Covid has struck down our Christmas plans. Grandson (3yo) is a close contact of a Kindy carer, and so has to get a test and go into 7 days isolation (ends 27/12). So daughter effectively locked down with him, and no big family get together. Lots of tears, but provided he does not test positive we can have a belated Christmas around New years.

So sorry to hear this.

I hope this is the limit of the disruption, because I'm aware of some pre-school instances in NSW (pre-Omicron) where a pre-schooler (not teacher) was positive and everyone at the pre-school was initially classified as a casual contact, then another case popped up a day or two later (keeping the casual contact status), then a third case (which then lead to a reclassification of all preschoolers to close contact).

Because pre-schoolers can't be vaccinated as a close contact they had to isolate for 14 days (and at least one caring parent of course). Because the teachers wore masks, and were fully vaxxed they remained casual contacts (but not to enter high risk areas, but strangely enough were allowed to enter pre-school even though pre-schools were then classified as a high risk area).

It’s being reported that the big Biden address today will not contain any new measures to deal with Omicron. It will be about improved access to vaccines and testing.

Let’s hope ours will be the same tomorrow. No more lockdowns, no more mandates (including masks), just personal responsibility. One can dream.

Queensland too, we had riots and we had 2% of what NSW and VIC went through!

But from my impression too many people scared of COVID and believing closing the borders will save them.

Far too early to group QLD with NSW & VIC.

In that case, Perth will be in lockdown over Christmas!!

My parents texted me (from Perth) saying that they hoped this would happen to hurry along the vaccination rates. They’d are still very annoyed at all the laggards holding WA back and ruining their Christmas.
