Good we are slowly weaning people off PCRs. Good first step.

Why haven’t NSW reported their RATs today??

I’m looking forward to flu season…I’m assuming we are going to do daily reports of the number of flu cases too? Its a fun game to play with friends - who gets closest to the reported number wins!

Oh… wouldn’t have thought it was that hard.

Maybe NSW Health PR team said ‘no rush mate’ to the developers 😂
Pretty sure even the work experience kid could knock up a webform using MS forms in an hour or so…

NSW only announced inclusion of RATs today. Anyone with serious illness presenting to hospital in NSW would still be getting a PCR, noting NSW still processing well over 115k of those a day.

No other state launched their website on the day of the announcement either. Would make more sense to
add to the app than a web form.

I have a gig at the end of the month and producer rang me last night to say will be scrapping PCR requirement, mailing me a RAT for day before and will give me another RAT on arrival.

If you read the NSW health surveillance reports they include reporting of other respiratory viruses, influenza A and B were virtually non existant last year, and all the covid swabbing meant they had more samples tested for flu than ever before.

From latest report:

The percentage of influenza tests that were positive has been very low (<0.01%) relative to the usual seasonal range, indicating limited influenza transmission in the community. There have been 26 influenza cases reported in 2021

So the headline should be 31,000 not 51,000 although maybe that's a moot point. Bring on the peak.

Wow. 50,000 positive test results reported in a single day. And still only about 600 people in hospital.

I can’t believe people are comparing this to the flu! This is clearly far less severe.

Headlines are rarely accurate ! ;)

In terms of infections it would seem likely that over a million Australians will be infected this week.

Maybe quite a few more due to the asymptomatic infected and others who just do not get tested, and those that test but are not reported.

My time is far too precious to waste watching cricket (akin to watching paint dry). ABC news channel last night only mentioned the no singing and dancing change. However this morning stated only positive RATs will be reported, so will skew the positivity rate further.

There is zero incentive to self report unless you are seeking a government hand out or needing an international travel clearance.

Asymptomatic and mild cases are simply told to stay home for 7 days, you dont even need a negative RAT to leave iso, and no one provides any actual health care unless you present to hospital. Covid is now endemic, most vaccinated people wouldnt even know they had it if not for all the testing done for travel, work and because they got pinged.

5 minutes Google Forms….

Smells of politicians to me, but I guess we all know the answer anyway :)
Well has to be tested, linked to databases etc.

Still Vic announced at 5.30pm on the 6th that reporting would start on the 7th, and the figures were released this morning the 8th.

I have no idea if the hotline worked, but the webform was live by at least lunchtime on the 7th.

Hospitalisations, ICU, ventilated, remain the important measures.

This is the perception. However there is a group of people at high-risk who it would be in their interest for the health authorities to know about as they would be eligible for treatment to prevent severe outcomes. The NSW text/email post-PCR+ linked to a screening questionnaire to identify them.
