Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Ooops my bad, got the bald politicians mxed up, it is Josh Frydenberg and Malcome Turnball.
I was feeling sorry for him. 😀

What is with SA and these damn RATs. Seems like they won't accept the positive RAT as proof of infection so we have to then line up for a positive PCR as well. Merde. As if when you test positive on RAT and get that nasty surprise you then want to line up to get another test especially now, if you feel poorly, you actually have Covid. Bloody hell.

Just over 4000 today and another 20 in hospital. ICU unchanged.

Son DIL and infant grandson arrived into Melb last night from UK, then an hour flight to SA then an hour drive home last night. I expect they will be completely washed out for days.

How is your daughter now?
She is getting better thank you @Pushka

I'm now in home quarantine in our 'granny flat' so won't be able to see her for 14 days but she will be out and about in a few days. Bizarre QLD rules.

And I believe in SA you still need a day 6 PCR after a positive PCR to be cleared to leave ISO. Whereas in some other states if you are asymptomatic you can just leave iso on day 7 with no further testing.

I do wonder how hard it wil be to get a clearance certificate to fly here, if you dont have a regular GP if you test positive on a RAT, register it but never get any medical treatment? How will GP know if your latest positive PCR (assuming you proactively get one a bit before depature to see if still shedding) is residual shedding from your positive RAT months ago or a new infection.

ABC reporting SA Premier differently???

From Thursday, close contacts in SA can get free rapid antigen tests from SA Health

We're hearing from authorities in South Australia now.

Premier Steven Marshall says the state is preparing for the introduction of rapid antigen tests for close contacts.

"This will be in place and operational on Thursday morning next week, probably mid morning we will switch on the ability for people to get a rapid antigen test free from SA Health and use that on day one and a six," he says.

"If they have a positive result, of course, this will then negate the requirement for them to go and have a further PCR test. We want to preserve the PCR testing capability for those people who have symptoms."

SA reporting 4274 positives, 24k tests, 164 hospital, 16 ICU according to ABC
Marshall very upbeat today.
Says less than 1% need hospitalisation and we have plenty of capacity in our hospital system.
People have finally got the message too by the looks as a couple of testing sites I’ve driven by this morning have minimal lines. Our testing times have been cut considerably and we have been seeing results back in 10-12hrs

To be honest, I can’t think of much that could. With our incredibly high vaccination rate, it’s apparent that this is literally no worse than a runny nose. We’ve ended up with the exact outcome we planned for. 99% of people need nothing more than a panadol and a lie down. The remaining 1% will get treatment. The same way people have always received treatment when they’re unwell.

Honestly right now, I wish a lot of people would be dispensed a Valium with the Panadol and the lie down….

On the phones today. The media (and government) have ALOT to answer for. I wish I could get those idiots to do this with me today hear what hysteria have created.

The biggest difference is when the infected person knows someone else that has had it - in this case they are very calm. The ‘first in my family/social group’ type are quite often distraught thanks to breathless Seven Nightly News / Project garbage.

It is getting better though. The speed of the cases is seeing so many people catch it mildly.

So what’s the go with PCR testing before heading OS now if you have previously had a positive RAT and then completed your isolation?
Can I come out of isolation on day 7 and then head OS without further testing or still need a negative PCR before travel?

Wouldn't the documentation requirementa be up to the country you are heading to?

Interesting process this Covid:
2 Jan AM hrs - Scarlett family get pcr tests for international travel. About 2 hr wait in queue. 🙂

4 Jan PM hrs - Finally get results en route to the airport after about 6 phone calls. 😡
All negative. QF very diligent checking everything for international travel. (took over 30 minutes at the check in desk). Fly domestic connection leg. Luggage checked to destination.

4 Jan - go to check in with SQ but can’t be given international boarding passes because PCR results are outside the 48hrs needed to TRANSIT at SIN. 🤬. Run back to airport testing site and line up for RATs. Get prioritised and results back in about 20 mins! 😀. All negative.

Slept for most of the SQ A350 flight. Even turned down my book the cook selection of dinner so I could get sleep. KrisFlyer lounge at SIN was okay for the short transit, but remember travellers, no boarding calls, so get to your gate early and hustle your family along!

5 Jan - arrive at destination and have to complete mandatory PCR tests on arrival. Process fairly smooth and out landside within about 90 minutes. Transit to quarantine hotel efficient then commence 10 day quarantine stay.
About 5 hours in, get notified of results from the airport and Mrs Scarlett is positive. 😕. Self and Mstr Scarlett still neg.
Hotel forces us to move out. 😡. Request for retest denied.
Fortunately, instead of being taken to host country hotel/facility for positives, we are relocated to a temp accommodation option managed by my employer and are now isolating here. Hilariously, host country Covid task force organised our transfer in an ambulance with lights and sirens!

6 Jan - Colleagues and friends have helped out to set us up comfortably. 😊 Online food ordered and delivered. Additional PCR tests conducted to confirm status: exact as per airport.

So where to now: I guess we’ll all eventually test positive and have to isolate for however long that process takes. Mrs Scarlett has a head cold and is resting, but otherwise okay.

Interesting background:
Mrs Scarlett - double vac plus booster in mid Dec. Positive
Me - double vac. Neg. No symptoms.
Mstr Scarlett - nil. Would have been eligible from Monday, but will eventually get his in Feb over here. Negative. No symptoms.

We’ll all get it eventually.

May your positive experience be less chaotic than ours and sickness free!

Oh, and to keep a little relevance to the thread title, we must have caught it in Australia, but won’t be listed on any statistics and no one will contract trace anyone else. And with what I’m reading from everything else in this thread, that’s probably a good thing. 👍

Depends on the entry requirements for the country you are going to some require no tests, others a -ve RAT and others a -ve PCR and then there is also the rules of the airline/s you are flying and any countries you are transiting.

I understand if the country requires a negative PCR, you will either need a negative PCR (unlikley for some months if you are recently recovered) or a negative RAT plus a medical clearance certificate from a doctor who has examined you and declared you are fully recovered and not infectious.

Hence my question a few posts earlier about how easy/hard this could be to get for those with no regular GP.

Difficult to predict.
Mrsandye and I are still negative 7 days post the masterandye3&4's testing positive
We are both 3jab but feeling we might be coughroaches (or pool chlorine and margaritas are effective antivirals)
Hope you all stay well

He said in that interview that people needed to follow up the RAT with a PCR. Heard it myself. 😂 Ok then later he said that will change next Thursday.

can I ask what country you're in? If you don't want to disclose no problems

I think depending on the country/airline, you might need a clearance certificate from your doctor, in case you get another positive test.
