Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Covidlive is saying it, but they are not always great. At times they do some hot takes.

Edit: im waiting for the DHHS daily report, which will give the total current active Linked to aged care. from that you can work out the Net gain (ie positives minus any positives that became inactive/deaths)

If it is confirmed data covidlive enter it into its tables. So for example the LGA data does not go into later the tables in the day. Ventilator data sometime never is updated.

If unconfirmed it is normally just a tweet, news media etc (so you can post the source), unless it is quoting a government source (in which case they also enter it into the appropriate table.

The commentary is in the DHHS report that I have been posting each day once it is out. What is in the commentary varies from day to day, and tends to focus on the main current issues.

Do you have a source for this? Just watched the Andrews presser and I don't recall him mentioning numbers, but the suggestion was that a very large proportion were linked to aged care.

Mr Morrison said of today's total cases roughly 10 per cent were connected to aged care, including 16 residents and 58 staff.

Plus from memory Dan also replied to it later, I think during question time and from memory I think he said about one hundred which surprised me as the general tone of his earlier comments (ie large proportion) suggested something a lot higher. Perhaps rtaher than large he should have said something like significant proportion.

Dan also made the comment was transmission was via staff.

In some regional areas, you tend to get more information than what you get in metropolitan areas ...

I think one advantage in fighting a pandemic in regional areas is a stronger sense of community and better information sharing.

I learnt something today lol

i never realised because Vic Press Conferences dont usually talk much about community transmission or emphasize the meaning of community transmission and NSW in the reports don’t specify it as such

eg
By likely source of infectionCount
Overseas2,025
Interstate acquired77
Locally acquired – contact of a confirmed case and/or in a known cluster1,073
Locally acquired – contact not identified370
Under investigation2
Total3,547

So I guess I assumed community transmission meant infection via community (eg local -known source) not that it meant unknown person in community......sigh

Sutton often talks about it as will other Health Officers . Politicians rarely will.

Also at present there may be a lag in the contact tracing data, and so unknown local transmission may not be accurate. Though an "under investigation" can remain that way after the source is known as they are still investigating all the close contacts and so sometime multiple interviews can occur.

Some people are dishonest like the Brisbane girls, some may have just forgotten someone, and sometimes the person that needs to be interviewed does not return call which is why they now doorknock all such people.

So the 3 young things from Brisbane actually put on the party in their Melbourne accommodation.Victorian police issued them all infringement notices so have their names.Might be some interesting interviews by Victorian police in coming days as to just how they came to know the visitors.

But back to Covid. The virus has been identified in the sewerage from Perisher so anybody there in the last 2 weeks needs to be tested.

Plus few cases often make it easier. Given the timing they most likely will not have the genomic sequencing yet, which often helps to fill in the dots.

I have several different clusters near me. So a person at the supermarket if positive could be from any one of them, or from multiple other clusters 10 or more km away.

Today's Vic DHHS Report,

Media release
30 July 2020

Victoria has recorded 723 new cases of coronavirus since yesterday, with the total number of cases now at 9,998.
The overall total has increased by 694 due to 29 cases being reclassified – largely due to duplication.

Within Victoria, 64 of the new cases are linked to outbreaks or complex cases and 660 are under investigation.

There have been 13 new deaths from COVID-19 reported since yesterday. They were three men in their 70s, three women in their 70s, three men in their 80s, two women in their 80s and two men in their 90s. Ten of the 13 deaths are linked to known outbreaks in aged care facilities. To date, 105 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria.

In Victoria at the current time:

  • 1698 cases may indicate community transmission
  • 5385 cases are currently active in Victoria
  • 312 cases of coronavirus are in hospital, including 34 in intensive care
  • 4259 people have recovered from the virus
  • Of the total cases, 9230 cases are from metropolitan Melbourne, while 565 are from regional Victoria
  • Total cases include 4945 men and 4931 women
  • More than 1,574,600 tests have been processed
  • Total number of healthcare workers: 951, active cases: 549
  • There are 877 active cases relating to outbreaks across aged care facilities
Cases currently linked to public housing in North Melbourne, Flemington and Carlton are as follows:
  • 311 cases are residents of various public housing towers in North Melbourne and Flemington. Investigations are continuing into how these cases are linked.
  • 66 cases are residents of various public housing towers in Carlton. Investigations are continuing into if and/or how these cases are linked.
Active aged care outbreaks with the highest coughulative case numbers are as follows:
  • 94 cases have been linked to Estia Aged Care Facility in Ardeer
  • 111 cases have been linked to St Basil’s Homes for the Aged in Fawkner
  • 90 cases have been linked to Epping Gardens Aged Care in Epping
  • 81 cases have been linked to Kirkbrae Presbyterian Homes in Kilsyth
  • 67 cases have been linked to Estia Aged Care Facility in Heidelberg
  • 62 cases have been linked to Menarock Life Aged Care Facility in Essendon
  • 56 cases have been linked to Glendale Aged Care Facility in Werribee
  • 52 cases have been linked to BaptCare Wyndham Lodge in Weribee
  • 49 cases have been linked to Outlook Gardens Aged Care Facility in Dandenong North
  • 42 cases have been linked to Arcare Aged Care Facility in Craigieburn
A single case in a staff member has been notified at the BlueCross Willowmeade residential aged care facility in Kilmore. The facility has been locked down and all staff and residents will be tested.

Cases currently linked to key outbreaks are as follows:

  • 121 cases have been linked to Bertocchi Smallgoods in Thomastown
  • 106 cases have been linked to Somerville Retail Services in Tottenham
  • 82 cases have been linked to JBS in Brooklyn
  • 64 cases have been linked to Australian Lamb Company in Colac
  • 30 cases have been linked to Woolworths Distribution Centre Mulgrave
  • 30 cases have been linked to Melbourne Health Royal Park Campus
  • 22 cases have been linked to Respite Services Australia in Moonee Ponds
  • 20 cases have been linked to Nino Early Learning Adventures in Bundoora
  • 19 cases have been linked to Hazeldean Transition Care, Western Health
  • 16 cases have been linked to the Linfox Warehouse in Truganina
  • 11 cases have been linked to Diamond Valley Pork in Laverton North
As investigations are undertaken throughout the day, these outbreak totals are likely to change as the public health team identify links between cases and identified outbreaks. Organisation based outbreaks totals include contacts as well as employees/residents/staff/students of that location/business.
Last week, we announced that face coverings would be mandatory in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire. Today, we announced that same requirement will apply across regional Victoria.
That means from Sunday 2 August at 11:59pm, a face covering will be mandatory whenever you leave home – wherever you live.

My Comment.
Yesterday were are 804 active cases relating to outbreaks across aged care facilities
There are 877 active cases relating to outbreaks across aged care facilities

Also from the above some of the larger aged care clusters at present would seem to in Not For Profit age care facilities. ie St Basils. Baptcare, Kirkbrae Presbyterian Homes . Other clusters are in the Private sector facilities.

Note that NFP age care facilities are large in number.

New cases outside of the resticted LGA's

Greater Geelong 14
Colac Otway 23
Greater Bendigo 7
Macedon Ranges 3
Gelenelg 7
Surf Coast 1
Goldern Plains 1
Bass Coast 1
Mansfield 1
Northern Grampians 1
Corangamite 1

So you can see why additional restrictions are now being brought in for the general Geelong Region, plus for all of Victoria.

I'm not saying it’s your fault, but the report numbers seem very rubbery From report to report.

The numbers don’t seem to align to covidlive earlier in the day and lots of those numbers on covidlive has since been revised.

Yes the data is "live" and comes out at different times. So numbers are accurate at the time they are released.

With DHHS report they have had more time to go through the data, and so corrections can occur, or new information can come in and so numbers are adjusted.

On the Vic DHHS website with their report you will note:

As investigations are undertaken throughout the day, these outbreak totals are likely to change as the public health team identify links between cases and identified outbreaks. Organisation based outbreaks totals include contacts as well as employees/residents/staff/students of that location/business.

Numbers are correct as of 11.59pm last night but are subject to change as cases are followed up and data is analysed. This can include changes to residential addresses following case interviews.

For example death totals can change. Deaths after the daily DHHS report is issued will normally show up the next day. If before the report a death during the day will be added to the total given in the morning.

I take your point but new cases in a certain sectors/segments should not just drop by seemingly 20% from an earlier report on the same day And where the headline number is the same.

13 new cases have been linked to Australian Lamb Company in Colac

It has had some big single days in the past. But today's is probably the largest day with new cases in Colac Otway not linked to the abattoir though.

It is Greater Geelong's biggest day though.

I take your point but new cases in a certain sectors/segments should not just drop by seemingly 20% from an earlier report on the same day And where the headline number is the same.

What report are you referring to? The DHHS report you posted today was for 29 July which was yesterday's report. Is there another report that you are referring to?

They might struggle to get their botox injections in jail

Yes covidlive and others took info during or post-Vic Press Conference today, so I assume from written material at that event.

I don't know which numbers that you are referring to. If you quote I can discuss, otherwise I have no idea.

They during the press conference covered new cases, test numbers, deaths and hospitalisations. These are all the same. Other criteria had no numbers during the press conference that I recall.

The Covidlive tables tend to get updated in the course of the day. The LGA data for example only gets added when the DHHS report is released for example. Anywhere from 2pm to 7pm of late.

THe legal fees should be higher than the quarantine charge.....yikes

It’s alleged the trio provided false information on their border declarations after returning from Victoria, noting that they had been in Sydney – where they transited – instead.

They face one count each of providing false or misleading information, as well as the more serious charge of fraud, which carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment.

And then there’s the question about the handbags. Victoria Police may be interested in following that up.

To get a picture of Victoria as at yesterday

In Victoria at the current time:
  • 1418 cases may indicate community transmission
  • 4839 cases are currently active in Victoria
  • 307 cases of coronavirus are in hospital, including 41 in intensive care
  • 4123 people have recovered from the virus
  • Of the total cases, 8632 cases are from metropolitan Melbourne, while 500 are from regional Victoria
  • Total cases include 4625 men and 4593 women
  • More than 1,554,000 tests have been processed
  • Total number of healthcare workers: 884, active cases: 502
  • There are 804 active cases relating to outbreaks across aged care facilities

Note as per my other replies on you question if you mean this report that you posted this afternoon, that was the report for the 29th July and not today's report (30th July).
What's new?
  • As of 29 July 2020, the total number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Victoria is 9,304 with 295 new cases diagnosed since yesterday.
  • The overall total has increased by 255 with 40 cases being reclassified – largely due to duplication.
  • Of the new cases, 34 are linked to outbreaks or complex cases and 261 are under investigation.
  • There are 1,418 cases that may indicate community transmission, an increase of 55 since yesterday’s report.
  • 307 people are in hospital, including 41 patients in intensive care.
  • Sadly, there have been 9 new deaths reported since yesterday. To date, 92 people have died from coronavirus (COVID-19) in Victoria.
  • There are 4,839 cases currently active in Victoria. 4,123 people have recovered.
  • More than 1,554,600 test results have been processed by the department since 1 January 2020.

Did I just hear that the reason the Ruby Princess was allowed to disembark and send their pax off away was because a Border Force Officer misread their test results?
It seems late in the day for this to come out, or were there mutterings of this before?
