Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Some in Queensland government employ clearly think they are a separate country, their CHO just said " "She was always, of course, allowed back into Queensland. She's a Queensland citizen as are her parents. So she was always allowed back in,". I think Dr Young will find the girl and her parents are Queensland residents and Australian citizens.

We are in the Cairns airport about to board a Qantas plane back to Adelaide via Brisbane.

MrP was so excited to be back on a Qantas plane, he gleefully accepted doing the security scan.

We expect that Brisbane airport will be full on Covid warning given the recent outbreaks and we expect to be grilled on arrival into Adelaide airport given that is a ‘currently’ open border. But people from Brisbane and the current geographical cluster area are being questioned on arrival and are asked, but as yet not compelled, to take a Covid test.

Thankfully Cairns is 2000 k’s away, the only risk for us is the BNE airport where we will only be for 50 minutes. Masks on from boarding in Cairns until we get into our car in Adelaide.

Ha. Tell that to SA Government who won’t even let SA residents back if they’ve been to Victoria.

Wasnt the issue they wanted to isolate at home not a hotel?

Maybe drop a line to the Queen of Queensland, just to double check. 🤣

Well Anna P is refusing to call Brisbane area a hotspot, even though it has additional restrictions compared with the rest of Queensland and more active cases than some Sydney LGAs did when she gleefully declared them hotspots. The hypocrisy is glaring.

Isn’t the issue that they know the likely source so it’s all traceable and not unknown community spread?

Have they conclusively identified the source and formally reported it? I've seen nothing official identifying how the workers at the detention centre acquired the infection. There was no mention of them having travelled from Vic or NSW or been overseas. And the number of venues listed as having being visited outnumbers the number of venues on the current NSW watch list.

I wish you a safe trip home Pushka, and am very jealous you got your week in Port Douglas that I did not.

But AP clearly has a double standard wrt declaring hotspots - it is something she does to "slam the borders shut" for political reasons not an impartial health definition.

She declared Canberra a hotspot with no cases and no community spread......

Australia is supposed to be creating a national definition of what a hotspot means and they might now be moving to more rational criteria which needs more cases than what they currently have.

Graphs of new cases and growth based on 7 day average cases for Vic including today's number.

(116 new cases for Victoria today). While new cases per day do bounce around the trend is clear and well established.

I understood that we are still a week away from that national definition being decided, But if that is the case, then most of NSW should not be hotspots - there are 5 LGAs only with unidentified community transmission.

No. Not yet. But even SA referred to the three women as the likely source yesterday so I suspect they have information that hasn’t been confirmed yet. And a relative of the 3 women I understand visited the detention centre a week after the 3 came back from Victoria.

I agree about the ACT. It appears that decisions are being made on the basis of border control issues. But I think there were whispers that SA may open up to ACT with a direct flight soon.

Another observation. When we departed Adelaide on Jetstar, the masks weren’t handed out by a gloved staff member but on a stand where everyone who wanted one simply grabbed the pack. What could possibly go wrong there? We had our own. I’m curious to see what Qantas will do in a few minutes.

And what about the little matter that the girl had to attend a NSW hospital which AP says are meant for 'NSW people'? Fortunately NSW is not quite so parochial.

I understand that some hospitals in Melbourne and Sydney (and possibly other cities) are the nationally agreed treatment centres for some rare conditions (especially in children) where the expertise / treatment capability is too expensive or difficult to maintain in each state. Maybe one of the AFF medicos can confirm?

I’ve told some friends who have moved down to Sydney recently from Brisbane that they need to get their rego changed ASAP as NSW roads are for NSW drivers only.

This is also my understanding.

I note that testing rates in Queensland are crazy low considering this recent outbreak. They have done 32k tests from last Thursday to yesterday, the outbreak announced on Wed (testign rates actually declined a little since the announcement). In the same time NSW did 118k.

Let us not give them too many ideas!

Sigh.....

Look, unfortunately AP and JY are both TERRIBLE communicators and when they come together they are just awful, make us QUEENSLANDERS (not 'citizens'...) look stupid. We are quite embarrassed by the way they are expressing themselves, everyone is talking about it and face palming every time they front up on television. There is also a lot of chatter about the manner in which JY is directing AP among medical circles up here.....

I'm sure it was an honest slip up in this instance though, I don't think it was intentional - although it was scripted and someone approved it.... clearly there are a few silly people on their team as well....
