Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I enjoy the Masked singer. I’ve pretty much been stuck at home since March and there aren’t many things to brighten up the day right now. They’ve been under strict Covid rules like many other allowed businesses and sounds like they’ve done the right thing shutting down immediately.
Reminds me of a Simpsons show I saw once. Homer said something like “Gee, Marge. 100 channels and there’s still nothing to watch on TV”. 😀

However the previous season was produced in Sydney where things would have been safer than Melbourne. Why was it changed?

I saw a credible reference reference that all available TV/movie/production sets in Sydney are booked out and have been for some time.

I haven't seen the program but are any/many of the participants from Victoria and prevented from travelling to Sydney to film anyway?

Of the panellist/host, I believe 1 is from Vic, 1 used to be Vic (now Qld I think), 2 from NSW and 1 from NZ. Can’t say much for the dancers and crew.

Are the people on the Masked Singer ever tested?

That would be yes. They are tested prior, and the patient 0 of this cluster was sent for testing by CH10.

As one of the few major TV programs still filming during Melbourne's stage four lockdown, the show's crew was subject to numerous on-set safety protocols.

Former tennis star Mark Philippoussis, the first contestant to be eliminated from the competition, said the on-set health and safety measures were "intense" but necessary.

"Everyone was always wearing a face mask and there was hand sanitiser everywhere," he said.

"Everyone gets tested beforehand. You can't walk around whereever you want, you can't go to the bathroom whenever you want and there's no talking [off set]."

Philippoussis said the only time anyone came within 1.5 metres of him was when he needed help getting into his echidna costume, which "easily weighed 20 kilograms".

Were they required to be tested.

If you mean by the DHHS

Under Victoria's stage 4 restrictions, most news and media outlets are deemed essential services, allowing production to continue if coronavirus restrictions remain in place.

I believe that under that employers have to have a Covid 19 plan in place. Whether testing is a required part of that or not I do not know. Normally as I understand it most permitted business do need to send any symptomatic staff off to be tested and symptomatic staff are not allowed to work.

If you mean by CH10, as per above Mark stated that everyone is tested beforehand (whether beforehand is only the once, or ongoing was not clarified. Whether this is a requirement, or CH10 being cautious was also not stated).

However,

A DHHS spokesperson said the department believed a member of staff developed symptoms on set on Friday and was sent to be tested. The staff member did not return to set.

So reading between the lines as of now:
  • Show and filming was permitted under Stage 4
  • Everyone tested at least on joining the show (ongoing not known)
  • Various CV19 protocols were in place
  • First person who developed symptoms was sent for testing.
  • Testing of other staff then revealed other cases
  • Workforce seems to have been split onsite to minimise transmission
  • Others infected are reportedly also dancers, as was the first case

Yep, that’s commercial television for you. Let it be a lesson for defunding quality TV.

It’s a variation on having a wardrobe full of clothes but nothing to wear.

I have noticed the shorts for the mask singer so could someone please report who it is who is playing the frilled neck lizard. 😆. My thought is that it’s Eddie Perfect based on the little snippet.

Just one positive case in SA today. A nurse already in quarantine having just returned from Victoria having volunteered to help out in an Aged care home. Thankfully she is asymptomatic which is excellent having volunteered her services to help out interstate. And thankfully no closure of the Qld border meaning we can return tomorrow without issues and have not been with many hundreds of kilometres of the problem areas.

Given all that, let me pose a general question (to anyone) as a consequence.

So, under Stage 4 lock-down conditions in Victoria, should ANY industry or gathering be permitted to operate if they employ similar COVID-safe practices and an demonstrate such? That is, was the Singer show allowed because of its safety protocols, or simply because it was entertainment, and they went from there?

Fairly obviously I think its the latter (in fact, such has been stated) which again makes a mockery of the Victorian situation. Its not how safely you can operate, its whether you are part of a lucky select group (in this case).

In agreement that it seems to be a case of the lucky elites - pretty much the whole point of my thread about footballers and their exemptions.

No exemptions granted for Brisbane Roar, though.
But they are Stars, aren’t they. 😀. Terrible treatment.

At the risk of raising people's ire, they can call soccer football all they like, I don't think Aussies generally regard it as in the same league (see what I did there!) as AFL or NFL. So no they are not stars, they are little people like us, who would get no border pass or quarantine exemption either! 🤣
