Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I think the talk is at cross-purposes. Will the hotspot be used for lockdown, border closures, etc?

If the hotspot is for lockdown, then you will need some buy-in from the affected community. But NSW has shown it’s unlikely to go down a lockdown path unless there is a massive case explosion (perhaps even 250 per day).

If the hotspot is for borders/quarantine on arrival, then you won’t need community buy-in. You need authorities to detect and detain. It might mean for example funnelling everyone through a few points (eg airports).

Given the hotspot definition, it looks like Victoria has to probably aim for half a hotspot (5 per day) for a week across Melbourne before letting go of Stage 4 lockdown.

Otherwise, they might be free, but can’t travel anywhere.

Even postcodes can be odd, my mothers post code takes about 1.5hrs to drive from one end to the other,

That's my situation too - a long strip in eastern Tas" sea on one side, vegetated hills on the other, small town dotted along the way, connected by a single highway, 1.5 hrs end to end. Of course some post code areas are even larger

Victoria must extend stage 4. The dropoff failed, unlike NZ - so there were scofflaws who sabotaged matters. AP and Geometric number progressions is not a hard concept. I think the magic number will be 2 community plus 1 Nursing home = 3. Nothing but hotspots by postcode will deliver the 'we are serious' message.

One should be more interested the police raids on protester organizer houses, which implies heavy handed computer interceptions. I don't believe police, for computer interception, feel they need a warrant. I assume the crazies know what a VPN is. Should try baiting them with a few false virtual supporter rallies , like happened to Trump.

Also in the News - WHO has stressed the importance of vigorous testing and safety checks, warning that none of the candidate vaccines have yet shown a “clear signal” of efficacy of at least 50 per cent.“

Time the Victorian RTA changes the numberplates from 'Victoria the Education State' to 'Victoria The Hard Lockdown State" or 'Victoria The Quarantine State"

Interesting to note that the government experts thought Vic lost tracing ability on about 22 June.

Historically that was about 125 active cases and about 115 in 7 days.

So we are looking at about 33% falls week on week......so 5-6 more weeks???

Deputy CMO: New cases 'continue to fall'

"In the past week we have seen 663 new cases of COVID-19 in Australia. This figure continues to fall and compares to the previous week when we saw 951 new cases. The week before, with 1600 new cases. 2354 new cases the week before that. And 3493 cases a week for that."

So a positive in SA today. Family member travelling to NT via Adelaide - without permission from SA Govt - tested positive and they and the family put into isolation. Be interesting to know who will be paying for all their hotel quarantine and the charges that will be laid

And one photo on ABC news has a protester in Adelaide holding a sign "Love is the Cure" - right :(
and the one in Melbourne with the sign "No epidemic Just Govt tyranny"

I wondered where the new case came from - only report I had seen was that it was a traveller from interstate.

According to this article Wastewater testing reveals COVID-19 traces in South Australia, there are recorded traces of the virus in waste water.

What I haven't read is how toilet bowl cleaners (or toilet rim blocks) affect the coronavirus.
The detection of coronavirus in sewage and waste water does seem to be questionable science since the analysis relies on RNA fragments so one should not put too much reliance on it according to my reading of the literature.

Party travelling from Victoria to Alice Springs. Being cynical I wondered if it was an attempt to avoid having to quarantine in NT on arrival. Looks like NT dodged a bullet.
And I wonder if she knew she was positive or at the least, unwell, when she boarded as she seems to have tested positively during transit.

Professor Collignon who is a bit of an infectious diseases guru thinks it’s a useful tool. I think it’s more if there’s nothing then that’s great. If it picks up traces that could be someone who is no longer infectious but is still shedding the virus.
