Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Professor Collignon who is a bit of an infectious diseases guru thinks it’s a useful tool. I think it’s more if there’s nothing then that’s great. If it picks up traces that could be someone who is no longer infectious but is still shedding the virus.
There was a death notice in today's CT thanking Professor Colliingnon for giving them 12 more years of good life.

So I’m confused.....
How did they get from Vic to NT?
How long did they spend in NT (quarantine)?
They flew Vic to Adelaide and were then going to fly Adelaide to Alice Springs but were nabbed in Adelaide and quarantined. Apparently they would normally have been sent back to Vic, but because she was travelling with her cousins (one as young as 10), they decided to quarantine in Adelaide instead,.

I believe there wasn’t any flights back to MEL either

So they have committed a border breach. When did they arrive?
Yes, my understanding is that officials knew they were coming but and were waiting for them at the airport. Spurrier seemed quite compassionate but I doubt SAPOL will be the same. I’d imagine will be forthcoming

When you arrive on a flight, into Adelaide, even from safe Qld, you have to provide a border exemption number obtained online. That is then checked against a drivers licence. They would not have completed that because it would not have been granted to them coming from Melbourne etc. And that’s when they would be picked up. So I doubt they were expected. The exit state does not check for permission to enter so it would have been unknown in Victoria.

The Police are the ones doing that checking so they are very aware.

Actually I received a message from JQ this afternnoon about my BNE-LST flight saying I must produce the paperwork that will let me into Tas or I will not be allowed to board.Surely that should be done out of MEL where you are not allowed to fly anywhere without permission.

Why? You are flying out of BNE?

Time the Victorian RTA changes the numberplates from 'Victoria the Education State' to 'Victoria The Hard Lockdown State" or 'Victoria The Quarantine State"

What about its official designation at the moment - 'State of Disaster'? This was officially declared on August 2.

Gladys would only shut the border to Queensland if their numbers started following the trajectory of Victoria's secknd wave, as Brisbane and Gold coast are so much closer to the NsW than Melbourne is. Gladys is far more practical than the other premiers, she has adequately sourced her contract tracers, is a realist wrt to zero being unrealistic before a widespread vaccine is available globally and so far has stopped the second wave getting out of control whilst being able to keep schools and business open.

Also Gladys does not face a state election until Saturday 25 March 2023 which allows her to focus on the real problem (Covid) rather than the opinion polls.

Though the First secretary of the DRPT only has to have an election by May 2022.
I do think he might be very tempted to go early on the polling that is being reported with Libs on 54%,ALP on 24% and Greens on 12%.

Similar to traces found in the treatment plant at Airlie Beach a couple of days ago

Growing very weary of this constant panic about Covid traces. If it is in the community, and we pretty much assume it is, then we seem to be dealing with it. People arent needing to seek medical advice for symptoms and so not resulting in actual positive cases being reported, hospital admissions high but for non covid issues and death rates in nursing homes way down. Death rates in Nursing homes also seem confounded by someone with Covid dying, but death is always going to happen to people in their eighties through to 100+ 🤷‍♀️

63 new cases with 5 deaths in Victoria but possibility of Stage 4 remaining until mid October with concerns of a third wave

Given the national number are dominated by Vic and that it’s been reducing week on week by about 33%, it doesn’t surprise that the discussion is mid October.

Current week is 663 or there’s about. Vic would have to get to half a hotspot before it was slightly confident of getting to be declared hotspot free and then allowed to travel interstate.
