PS: Retesting might also mean multiple tests as if when you retest the person is still positive, you then would have to retest again.

Yes. That is exactly what is happening to me. Retest again next Tuesday which will be almost 14 days after my initial release from iso.

I agree it's a risk v resource issue. I believe health workers have to be retested and that is likely to be because the risk they pose to others is much higher. Not so much the risk of infection but the consequences of the infection

The other problem is some of the tests have about a 20% false negative rate so a negative test doesn't actually mean you are clear hence why people at risk often tested again if first test negative.

Both my husband and I were booked in for the flu shot Friday 3rd April at our GP surgery in WA.

I was called in first, told that there was no booking for my husband due to a mix up. All the staff looked worried and flustered. Apparently they ordered 1,000 vaccines - but only 500 were delivered. No date on when they could get in more stock.

Seeing as he has medical conditions that make him more at risk each winter, I said he better have mine.

Hopefully they will get another delivery of the Quad vaccine after Easter.
I am relatively healthy and basically isolating at home, so not a big worry.

We, in Perth, were booked in for the 'quad' one next Wednesday at a pharmac_. They rang up to say that while they had the 'triple' one there was no 'quad' and they aren't sure when it will arrive. They will ring us once it is available.

I thought they were all quadrivalent this year? The ones for seniors are higher doses. Our local pharmac_ is supplying quadrivalent but not the senior ones, as yet.

Immunisation Programs - Seasonal influenza vaccination 2020

Reposting. A trial in Adelaide started today of using BCG as a preventive. Seems that countries with a high rate of BCG immunisation have a lower death rate. We had them as kids. I wonder when they were stopped?

In the 80's due the low incidence of TB in Australia.

The vaccine loses its effectiveness over time, usually within 5 to 15 years, and so I would assume would not assist to ward off CV19 for those of us who had it as a kid.

India, China, Indonesia, Philippines, Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh and South Africa are highest for TB, and I am not sure how good for most of them their community records would be for TB or CV 19.

I know my son, who was born in SL in 1985 had a BCG at near birth. He's around 34 now.

Chemist Warehouse ran out of flu shots. I was told they had their 'allocation' and could not get any more.
So instead of $15, I might pay one short consultation at the local GP, plus feed the connected chemist who charges more for the vaccine. Plus I waste my time. Mr Hunt must be feeding the lobbyists.
Technically end of April is better, but I fear the lines will be longer then.

I also know that doctors in bulk bill clinics collect mostly 50% of the fee, plus get a relocation bonus for relocating, which for crazy hours can be worth up to 100K per year. The same ones that charge a consult for reading your test results back). Indeed country towns have been bleeding GP's to bigger towns. (some county towns have hospitals with no doctors, when the old ones retired - often). Tractor takeoff injuries are nasty.

I hope drron gets his wishes on teleconsultations, as a 3 week GP appointment wait before Corona was an issue is getting on the nose in my electorate. I am also smiling at the lack of Alcohol injuries presenting during the lockdown, meaning lying state premiers are going to have a problem reopening nightlife spots.

Drug resistant TB is around. Nasty X sorts too. Also some 'cured' had it hiding in hip bone marrow. Meningitis is still here. Whatever the discussion was about, Australia needs more Pathology R&D. Oh wait I remember a 4Corners special where Rose Hancock ... After this, the public are braying for effective local capability, not cargo cult in a container delivery fulfilment solutions. Mind you Trump is in the hotseat too.

I had my 65+ flu shot last Tuesday at my local pharmac_. I booked online late the previous week through the pharmac_ chains - Friendlies and Pharmacy777 - affiliated with HBF, my private health provider. There were plenty of appointment slots available and I assume that availability of the vaccine matched the slots being put up.

Given the cost of education and training to become a doctor and the hours involved on the job, I feel quite sorry for those working in bulk billing clinics who don't really make much all things considered - unless you're the owner of a chain of bulk billing clinics in which case one has then commercialised/commoditised and leveraged the practise of medicine to a large profitable scale, but that person is unlikely to be the doctor you see at the ordinary consult.

Totally agree that telemedicine needs to be promoted as much as possible.

I really don't know what's been said here. I simply made an appointment with my GP's surgery, and had a 'quad' injection 10 days ago, from the nurse. Cost me $16.50. No connection with a pharmac_, or with 'Mr Hunt'.

Do you really think it a 'waste of your time' to get vaccinated against flu, especially in the current environment? I drove an hour to my GP and an hour back, without blinking. I also get my pathology results from my GP by SMS - either 'no problem' - thats it, or 'please make an appointment' if it needs follow-up.

Sounds like you might need to change your GP.

Today's figures from the ABC:

Figures show 3,141 people have recovered from the disease, leaving 3,095 confirmed cases still current or “active”.

The ABC now use federal government recovered figures ... Just now:

Active ... 3,163 ...

I am 59 and am pretty sure I had it. I think it was the one that left the scar on your arm.
Our son had to pass the TB test before we could finalise his adoption. He reacted positively to Mantoux. SA health wanted him to have multiple chest X-rays and treatment. I refused (looking back at that decision I was rather bolshy as it may have jeopardised finalisation but instinctively I knew he did not need the heavy duty antibiotics nor the chest X-rays as a less than one year old). I got our Medical Centre GP to write an appropriate Letter to inform them their Rules were nonsense when someone had already had the BCG and all the mantoux was showing was that the BCG had worked. Our son had the classic scar on his arm.

Our DIL is now working as GP in Telehealth. She is taking many many calls.

What do you mean they ran out? I've got my appointment in mid May.
