What do people expect? Michelin starred food?
They are paying extra for food now. I couldnt eat that. It reminds me of the Hospital food I had. I lost a lot of weight during my stay. If something doesnt look appetising I simply cant eat It. Ive always been a bit like that with food. I'd rather have biscuits and cheese, salads, cereals, milk and fresh fruit than cooked slop.

Those pictures looked far worse (and unacceptable) than served to me when I was last in hospital (maybe 5 years ago). It was a private hospital however. The food wasn't gourmet but it was well prepared, had good presentation, adequate volume and was nutritious.

I haven't used the services of a public hospital in many decades.

Totally agree - however I do think the health care in Australia vs South America has to be a big factor.
South American healthcare is not uniform. Uruguay is outstanding whereas other countries like Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay are well below Australian standard.

Wise move. I was at the Old RAH a year before it was closed up. Mixed ward of 8 people. I got bumped out of my other room for a prisoner the next day. Had a guy next to me and someone with a mental illness opposite me. She was funny though She took off the lid of the meal, said to the staff, amongst other profanities she'd been saying all day said, "I'm not going to eat that cr@p" so I peeked under, and said to the staff, "I'm with her". 😂. Think of tiny cubed carrots, corned beef with congealed white sauce and boiled potatoes. Breakfast was a cereal packet and they only had coffee. Those meals look like they have come from the same provider.

Sigh.
Youngest virus victim may have died of other causes

A man in his 20s, thought to be the youngest Australian to die of COVID-19, was suspected by senior health officials to have died of another cause, possibly a drug overdose.
The Age reports that Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews was not aware of the possible involvement of drugs or another cause of death before he gave he announced the man's passing.
But, people familiar with the case told the publication that officials in the Health Department had discussed the circumstances of the man's death indicating an overdose.
The man was infected with COVID-19 when he died, but in recent days the State Coroner has requested a coronial investigation into the man's cause of death.

Uruguay is doing extremely well with very few cases and 13 deaths per million, whereas those others are over 600 deaths per million.

So my point on that, is this isolation necessary if the virus simply does not result in hospitilisations anymore? The goal was always stated to be to flatten the curve so that we didnt overwhelm the hospitals. That didnt even happen in Victoria at its worst. Possibly isolation in a hospital setting or aged care home, but a more general setting like the usual workplace or shopping centre?
I can’t find it right now but I’ll keep searching. Great thread on this on Twitter.
I’ll paraphrase it for now. If we allow this to run it’s course in the population everyone who has close contact with the elderly and vulnerable (and the families, kids, teachers etc of those close contacts) need to stay well clear and isolated from the general population. If they don’t and there’s reasonable level community transmission then we become New York or Italy.
I wish it was simple but it isn’t.

Just one piece of feedback on this. Our daughter and family are and have been in Panama for all of this. Their experience is that the expats obey the quarantine and the locals flaunt it. If caught breaking the rules the locals pay off the police.

Also a byline of this is their lock down has been a lot longer and much harsher than the equivalent in Victoria despite the publicity. (Their kids didn't get to leave the house for 4 months)
But in Vic I can't bribe the police.
