Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

And i replied to your statement which was incorrect in claiming the demographics were completely different in Sydney.

So Sutton was incorrect in what he stated today on the characteristics of the Second Wave then?

Note that there is a difference between discussing demographics of two Cities (which I was not discussing) , as opposed to demographics of case cohorts in two cities where cases are currently occurring. It is this that we have been discussing.

As noted too, the demographics of the cases of Melbourne's first and second waves have been different as well. So this is not just a Melbourne v Sydney discussion. It is cohort v cohort.

EDIT:
You can see/hear Sutton's comments today if you watch a replay of the press conference.
Tune in at 27 minutes 45 seconds for Sutton in this topic..

In the one of the more recent cohorts that we’ve seen specifically mentioned, this is what Wikipedia mentions ...

"In Sydney, the largest portion of ... reside in the LGAs of City of Ryde (North Ryde, Macquarie Park, Marsfield, and Top Ryde), The Hills Shire (Castle Hill, Cherrybrook, and Kellyville), Blacktown (Glenwood, Parklea, Stanhope Gardens and Bella Vista) and Sutherland Shire (Miranda).'

"In Melbourne the majority of .... live in Greater Dandenong and Casey"

They are the same demographic (in the broader sense of the word, looking at socioeconomic status etc ), but I'm not sure they were the same "demographic" in the narrow sense of the word, where you had 13 people households, etc. It seems this word has been used as a code presumably to avoid to avoid inflaming tensions or offending anyone. It doesn't take much digging to find out specifically what communities are being referred to.
There are only two of us in the house. I think I would go mad if there are 13!

4 regional / 3 metro

Lets hope regional (linked already to Chadstone cluster) is quickly contained.

Massive rapid response contact tracing already happening and isolating has commenced. They have a localised tracing team up there thankfully and they are confident of suppressing, though fo expect some more cases to pop up.

But how did it get all the way to Shepp?
Always legitimate reasons to travel. Someone from Shepparton could have gone into a Melbourne for a medical appointment and then popped into Chadstone for some reason. I am sure there are lots of scenarios. :(

At least the good news is that regionally it appears much easier to crush the chains of transmission based on the speed VIC contained the second wave up there, with far higher numbers - and also NSW were able to get on top of their second wave regional outbreaks pretty quickly too when it leaked out from Sydney.

They are also doing ASYMPTOMATIC testing in regional VIC, asking if any people have been to any of the high risk locations they have published to go get tested.

And look lets not miss that Melbourne only had 3 cases today @blackcat20 :) Hopefully a good sign.

Shepperaton they could just lock down and test 51,000 people, China was doing that to a city when cases came up.

Its the same person who spread it to Killmore. They lied to the contact tracers and did not tell them that they also went to Shepp.

They only found out last night where the person finally divulged they actually went to Shepp as well.

Some people.....

That’s very sad :(

There were 7 cases reported in WA yesterday. I have not seen any reference to these in the local media here in Qld. Does anyone have an overview of those? Were they all returned overseas travelers? or crew from a ship? I assume not community transmission. Just curious since WA has not had more than one or cases reported for a long time.

Pretty sure they were either overseas travellers in hotel quarantine or from a ship. From memory there were 6 extra ship cases yesterday (EDIT looks like all 7 were from a ship). According to Covid live it’s been 186 days since WA had a community transmission.

Thanks. I assumed it was most likely case based on lack of media frenzy that would have occurred if otherwise.

3 cases is good. But the case popping up in Bairnsdale worries me.

Shepp worries me more. Though having said that I am sure they will soon get it under control. but given that unknown mixing has been occurring for some time number we most likely will see the cluster grow somewhat before it is extinguished.

For the non-Victorians, or just Melbournians that do not no regional Victoria well, Shep is very much a regional centre for business, work, supplies and has a lot of travel to and through it. Many people live outside of Shepp and commute there for work.

So apart from having 3 times the population of Bairnsdale, the potential for mixing of people which is what the virus thrives on would be vastly greatly that Bairnsdale, or Kilmore.

Still the recent cluster busting has been good in Victoria. And without these people who deliberately break rules our cases would now be extremely low.

The cases in Shepp have been at a number of mixing locations while possibly infectious:

Shepparton high-risk locations
Central Tyre Service, Welsford Street Shepparton from Wednesday, September 30 to Tuesday, October 13.
Bunnings Warehouse, Midland Highway Shepparton Friday, October 2.
Shepparton North, 175 Midland Highway Shepparton Saturday, October 3.
Mooroopna Golf Club Members Bar, Sunday, October 4 and Pro Shop and Members Bar Sunday, October 11.
Shepparton Market Place Medical Centre, Midland Highway Shepparton Thursday, October 8.
Lemon Tree Café, Fryers Street Shepparton.
Thai Orchid Restaurant, Nixon Street Shepparton on Wednesday, October 7 from 7.00pm to 8.30pm.
Bombshell Hairdressing, Fryers Street Shepparton on Wednesday, October 7 9.30am to 10.30am.
McDonalds Shepparton North Numurkah Road Shepparton Saturday 3 October 2020.

3 cases in Metro Melbourne is the lowest since 9th June. So excellent news on that.

7 cases today is still good news. Though yes not good as in cases in Shepp (which could grow substantially in the immediate term) and Bairnsdale .

Without one cleaner who went to work still cases today in Vic would be at 4 ( or less depending on the transmission chain of the 4 cases).

Bad new re the 5 deaths. Though I would guess that there may have been some grouped reporting of past deaths occurring such as we have seen from time to time. :(
