Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

At least until the past 4 days or so, where the rate was greatly accelerated and the per capita rate approached the national average. Vast majority of the tests in NW Tas.

I always wondered why the testing numbers were so low in Tas. Surely the pool of testing kits is national, not state-limited?
My feeling is that they banked on isolation, hence the heavy handed approach to incoming travellers. It's a good strategy but it has it's downsides. Refer the Red Masque!

Today’s numbers up by 14.2%. Actually it’s only 1 more case than yesterday. NSW 5, QLD 2, VIC 1. Total 8.

Tasmania is still way behind in testing-just over half the rate of SA which leads in tests done per 100000 population.

And that is up to 1915 tonight.

On 22/4 there were only 200 tests done in North West Tasmania-that is just way too little in view of the number of cases in the NWRH cluster.

You can only test those who have a cough or sore throat and show up for testing, or known contacts of an infected person

Except they aren't even doing that. The testing outside known contacts is only if those who have symptoms go for testing and many don't-eg the worker at the Anglicare Nursing Home who went to work for 6 days with symptoms.I believe the report on the NWRH cluster will report that was the case with that hospital.
On top of that they have announced that in the North West they will also test anyone else who wants to be tested. We still do not know how many have the virus but don't have symptoms.

Are you sure? Not according to post #1025 and covidlive.com.au 😀

The days seem to vary a bit and so I would guess it might be because at what time each closes off at. ie each probably some cases record in different 24 hour blocks as they are using a different 24hr period.

Covidlive.com.au uses the calendar day when the number is issued. VIC and NSW are always first to report and TAS the last. The ABC uses the same numbers.

Well if so their chart is still different. They show 4 for TAS, 1 SA, 2 VIC, 5 NSW for yesterday = 12.

Anyway the key thing is if you use say a rolling 3 day average that the trend is clearly still down and overall cases are now very few.

The cases seem to be on the rise today. 2 more in Qld and 14 in Victoria in a Psychiatric facility. At least.

W.A. has announced the death of another passenger from the Artania. Plus 2 more cases recorded overnight, 1 associated with o/s travel and the other being investigated. Now only 76 'active' cases and 464 recoveries.

Has anyone managed to tally the cruise ship deaths? I imagine around 30% of the Aussie total so far.

Ruby 21
Artania ??
Celebrity Eclipse ??

Any others?

Artania has been responsible for four of W,A's 8 deaths

Between cruise ships, nursing homes, this facility and what is happening in Singapore with worker dormitories it seems "communal" living poses the greatest risk to individuals and to creating clusters, at this point in time.

Just to be clear in terms of cases today, there have not been 14 cases in Victoria, but 6 (as of now).

3 of 6 Victorian cases reported so far today were from the psychiatric facility outbreak. There have been 14 in total from the the psychiatric facility outbreak, but 11 were previous and stem from the outbreak which commenced there from the 24th March.
