Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Is this the first time a late night announcement has been made by a Premier for a covid case.

Maybe a Premier, but with the BlackRock Cluster one saw measures rolled out and the DHHS made an official detailed announcement early evening on the same day that the positive results were returned. ie Test results back in the afternoon of the 30th and announcement out with an initial risk lit of locations published. Plus we know the second ring was swiftly enacted then. By the time the 3 cases were reported in the official numbers on the 31st scores of people were already isolating and that soon ramped up to 1000 odd.

With over 600 already isolating, there could well be a over 1000 in isolation by the time the case is logged in the official report tomorrow morning.

Cases generated from quarantine are going to keep happening. Yes important to keep improving quarantine, but it is also most crucial that speed such as this is used to jump on any outbreak when they do occur, and for states to not freak out with border restrictions when there are only a small number, or even one case.

Being quick to act comprehensively should mean that the blunt axe of state border restrictions is not required. Though states may well panic yet again.

We keep learning. The lesson this time may well be that quarantine workers should possibly retain daily testing or another increment after their last shift. However more difficult as that will mean extra travel and time compared to be testing during a quarnatine shift.

Heaps of free masks at LST! Some bewildered Tasmanians walking in circles trying to put them on 😅
I've not had a problem working out how to put them on but I find it really hard to see where I'm going once I get it properly fitted, so quite possibly I would appear to be walking in circles.

They had signs at LST showing how to put it on, just in case you forget :D

It’s one case and they appear to be on it. Nothing to see here, move along.

Unfortunately there are a couple of states desperate to get the spotlight off them, one in particular springs to mind so prepare yourself for the garbage to flow bigggggg time today..... get the popcorn ready.

Meanwhile again, it’s all about ‘damn what restrictions are back’ not ‘oh hope the worker is alright’ highlighting that yet again people are terrified of the state governments not the virus! There is zero empathy for the worker, anywhere, including on here!

Tells a story doesn’t it....

Indeed which is where the guilt comes from. As he has a high viral load they expect others.

Close contacts already in isolation, so let’s just hope not too many casuals got it...

Clearly from the disaster mutant outbreak in Perth resulting in a massive infection number of precisely zero people from the index case, the new strain isn’t perhaps as wildly contagious as the media have whipped us up to think it is....

Just wish that some media would be brave enough to point that out. High viral load though, has always been pointed out as an issue.

Hmmm, I think it is still evolving tbh but maybe because they have acted quickly and cancelled a few things today and have isolated a large number of people that we may be able to say that in a few days time. Plus, as it impacts tennis players then likely it will get a focus in the media worldwide.

Maybe, but we can do without the "Melbourne on the brink" headlines that no news is running with.

Hotel quarantine is always going to be the weak point and it looks like the protocols for managing it are working, so I don't see any reason to panic.

I dont think its a matter of zero empathy, many are thankful for tne people who take these high risk jobs to keep the larger community safe.

But in this case it was an unecessary exposure if no AO then this guy wouldn't have been exposed, many still angry that the event is happening whilst so many other Aussies cant get home. In Perth case its frustration that simple thing like wearing an N95 mask in high risk work situation not happening.

Our health systems have plenty of capacity to cope at this time. Looking at clusters linking back to HQ breaches (excluding Melbourne's disaster in July) there have only been 3 hospitalisations for health reasons (as opposed to some states tney move extra people to hospital out of caution) - 1 from Crossroads, 1 from SA pizza cluster, 1 from Berala (guy who went to emmergency) and no deaths. The exposed HQ cleaners and drivers have not be in high risk age group, so we hope have all recovered ok.

Most of hospitalisations since Melbourne secoond wave resolved remain overseas arrivals.

A few close contacts apparently in these numbers already, so far so good. Will probably be a few close contact cases already in isolation over next couple of days.... then again who knows.

Exactly my point. “We hope” - We don’t know, they are just ticked off as recovered on the daily Twitter post and removed as an active case and everyone breathes a sigh of relief as we hope the state premiers don’t overreact the next time there is a quarantine beach, again.

Where is the media follow up profiling the recovery of these people? Are they experiencing any lasting symptoms? Are they getting the so called ‘long’ covid or bounced back fine. No one knows, cares enough to follow up.

Was not mad and panicked, it was a meticulously planned PR piece in the works for 3-4 hours... very very clear why...

If it’s premeditated and planned it can still be mad and panicked ;)

From SMH:

Victorian authorities also investigating COVID spread among quarantine guests

The fresh case in the Grand Hyatt quarantine worker comes as Victorian health authorities investigate the transmission of the UK variant of COVID-19 within one of the state’s quarantine hotels after the virus jumped from a hotel room to a guest in the opposite room.

The state’s public health team believe viral particles may have exited the room of a family who all later tested positive. Somehow, the virus either lingered in the air or attached itself to a hard surface, which then caused a woman in another room to contract the same strain of COVID-19.

A member of the family recalled opening the hotel room door - either to collect food or put out laundry - at the same time as someone in the room opposite opened their door.

CCTV footage has not shown any occasion on which members of the two rooms exited their rooms simultaneously.

We sure can do without that. Every time I hear of an issue anywhere in Australia I shudder to think of the disruption that could follow and the media make sure that we feel that.

Gosh if that is your definition of mad and panicked I hate to see you react in a real crisis ;)

Everyone has thier own perspective based on their own life experiences I guess so if it felt that way to you - then that’s how it felt to you :)

Well im sure those people wwnt their privacy and not to have their names splashed all over the media.

I know health do follow up with welfare checks and you would also expect their employers, friends and family to do the same.

You can bet that if they didnt recover ok we would have seen workcover claims or union action or a trashy current affair segment.
