Australian state border restrictions

Everyone's scared of being blamed for opening state borders and someone dies.

It's more about making sure you can shift the blame.

In WA, make sure you can shift the blame 'over east'. In QLD, make sure you can shift the blame 'Down South'. There's an election, and it needs to be Canberra's fault....

Tasmania - Mainlanders...

And thus it has been so since 1901...

Looking better for the QLD border reopening
View attachment 261849
Though there were also hints of keeping the border closer with the Government not committing to reopen on reaching 80% double vaxxed and our illustrious CHO she wants 95% of 12+ the target.Thankfully she will be gone when December rolls around.

The government has not recommitted to opening the borders once vaccination coverage reaches 80 per cent.

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said the state has modelled reopening at 80 per cent, but she would prefer if vaccine coverage reached 95 per cent.

“It shows that we would be stretched, of course we would be, which is why I don’t want to stop at 80 per cent,” she said.

“I would like to see every single Queenslander, 12 years of age or older, vaccinated. I think that’s absolutely critical.

It's not just leisure travellers - I (used to) travel interstate for work quite a lot. I'm not an essential worker, so have been working from home for the best part of 18 months. Looking at when I can go interstate again for work - initially from Vic to NSW, may be possible in the new year? I can handle an orange zone test on return, not so keen on quarantining for 14 days.
yep, I'm in a similar situation. Pre-pandemic, I used to deliver specialist face to face training in all states and territories. Now I am struggling to even be allowed to deliver it in my own city - I live in ACT. A session originally booked for April 2020 has just been rescheduled, yet again to 30 Nov 2021. My work in Adelaide booked for Mar-June 2020 has been re-booked twice and was settled for Oct-Dec 2021, but due to border closures, none of that looks likely and it has all been cancelled except the last session for first week of December, but I am pretty sure that will also be cancelled after hearing some of the statements from SA Premier. It's so frustrating, and expensive too, to lose so much work.

Indeed he seems to be.
The problem is that these people making decisions are not qualified for the job. The actual problem being dealt with is risk management. In its simplest form you look at the likelihood of an event and balance this against the potential consequences of the event. With regard to Covid, this is a constantly evolving equation. When it first broke loose, the potential consequences were severe. Totally untrained population and no vaccine.
Today, the consequences are are several notches down from severe and as more people become vaccinated, it reduces further.
Considered correctly, this means that it is possible to work with an increased likelihood, however we are stuck with a bunch of decision makers who can only view things in black and white. If there's a risk , they need to eliminate it, rather than put it in perspective. At this stage, it would be useful to get rid of the politicians and doctors. There's nothing beneficial they can contribute. A politician views everything through the prism of the next election and whilst this is a medical issue, the problem is not. Doctors have no special training or experience in considering border controls.

That’s the one I mentioned earlier today. Spurrier was questioned on it this arvo. She said she has family in ACT and expects to see them for Christmas but it’s more a case of quarantine of people from hot spots. However we are seriously concerned that despite high vaccination rates our lives are going to be a case of rolling shut downs. Cluster F comes to mind.

The major parties will have a serious wake up call if/when they don't change tack and the more freedom oriented parties such as the Liberal Democrats carve out a huge chunk of the vote.

What part of ‘Covid will be everywhere’ and basically everywhere will be a ‘hotspot’ do they not understand?
