I am not sure that the restriction around WA entry after coming into contact with people who have been in VIC still applies (according to a call to the WA covid hotline). The relevant direction on the g2gpass seems to be from November last year, is there a more recent source used in this article?

Thank you both. I am far more reassured.

My call to the hotline (and the G2G declaration itself) seemed to focus on coming into contact with people who had been to exposure sites and/or were diagnosed positive as opposed to in VIC at all. It is confusing because the G2G pass currently links to directions from November last year, as opposed to these much more recent ones.

Thanks for the info. I have now removed that paragraph from the article on state border restrictions.

I've been doing my best to keep up with all the changing restrictions, but there are so many moving parts - it can be a challenge at times and I do sometimes miss things!

It's not great news for those in Melbourne - but they are opening quicker than they have in the past which is a promising sign. QLD is open also.

Good, probably about time, although maybe regional Victoria restrictions should have come off shortly after the lockdown in regional Vic was lifted. After all so far in the current outbreak there have been a massive 0 cases detected in the community in regional Vic! And even in the massive outbreak that happened last winter, anything that went into regional Vic was controlled very quickly, on the back of hundreds of cases a day in Melbourne. But hey, WA ....

But they still have to have a COVID test. Am I hoping for too much to travel to SA in a bit over a week from greater Melbourne with no COVID test and no quarantine? For a weekend visit quarantine is not practical. Still not confident that I won't need to postpone my travel.

I still don't know anyone in Melbourne that has had COVID despite all the cases that there have been in the city. These state border restrictions seem far more than what is necessary.

If Vic removes the 25km travel limit, then other states can respond accordingly, whilst this remains in place it sends a signal that there is something to worry about. Allowing Melbournians to freely travel throughout Vic, says everything is under control. Not really fair to complain about other states restrictions, when its your own states restrictions enabling their behaviour.

The 25km travel limit is indeed the first hurdle to overcome. I would hope that would be gone later this week or early next week, but we'll see.

I'm not optimistic if regional Victorians need to get a COVID test that there won't be a period where anyone from Greater Melbourne travelling to Adelaide will need a COVID test once the restrictions are eased.

So it looks like I'm going to need to rearrange leave plans and check with people I'm planning to catch up with when they're available in July etc. Getting fed up with restrictions that don't pass the "pub test".

I sympathise, i was supposed to travel to Melbourne this Friday, but rescheduled til October, i dont want to end up having to wfh for a fortnight if vic goes back into lockdown.

With respect to Greater Melbourne that makes sense. With respect to regional Vic I think it has been well established that the risk is very low so hopefully for those travelling from regional Vic won’t, for example, require Covid tests going into SA, for too much longer.

It would be good if at some point a state government lost a court case over these stunts or better yet stopped behaving so heartlessly.

This was barely acceptable but certainly understandable in the first 3-6 months of the pandemic . No one knew what they were dealing with and how to deal with it. 16 months in, this exact circumstance I am sure has been foreseen and measures to manage the risk should have been developed such that it becomes an exercise in compliance. Not an exercise in saying no.

I’m hoping to travel to SA from Greater Melbourne with no COVID test and no quarantine in about a week for a weekend. I still don’t know anyone who has had COVID in Melbourne so I think my chances of having it are practically zero, so getting tested would be not only a pointless waste of resources, it would also make a weekend trip impractical.

I think I’ll have to change my dates but will wait and see what SA announces for now.
