Australian state border restrictions

Insane! The question now really has to be “when does it end?”. The vaccination rate isn’t getting any higher, so are we honestly going to continue to behave this way indefinitely?
A 'we' behaving this way, or is it simply the politicians?
‘When does it end?’

When the first state premier continuing the ‘covid cases bad’ insanity loses an election...
Well the two I would categorise as the worst don't have to have an election for quite some time. And I still wouldn't be surprised by the size of the cohort who think government money grows on trees, who don't travel themselves, and don't see why you should, and whose children aren't losing their jobs because of this.

When pointless testing for Interstate travel has delayed the identification of probable cases the time is well past due to stop the pointless travel tests.
Yes, but the bureaucratic answer to this would be to stop travel, or hugely increase the departments that are doing the testing. Nothing logical ever came from government...not that I can recall anyway.

Yes indeed. Under oath in the first Patel Inquiry the DG of QLD Health admitted only 40% of the Department's salaries were spent on clinical and Allied Health staff. Almost certainly it has declined since then.

I agree with you and possibly masks may have been still a requirement in indoor settings instead of leaving it up to the individual to only return the rule a short time later. I know my sister stopped wearing a mask when it first changed and when I asked her the reply was the other staff where not wearing them.

Perhaps test results should not be provided if they are negative....
That would mean the requirement to isolate until results are negative would need to be removed. I suspect the Govt does not want that because it’s an easy 1-3 days lockdown without formally calling a lockdown.

Are we phase C of the National Covid Plan to which all the Premiers agreed to? Phase C was supposed to be reached when we are 80% Nationally now > 90% Covid2Jab

Are the Premiers conveniently ignoring Phase C?

“Exempt vaccinated residents from all domestic residents”

One way is the change the Medicare rebate of CovidPCR test to zero if asymptomatic testing. And then close the loophole for people circumventing asymptomatic testing by saying they are symptomatic by requiring isolation and x2 PCR tests 3 days apart.

There's a reason they used the wording 'measures may include' :)

I don't think WA is an phase C. And the premiers aren't noted for sticking to agreements in National Cabinet.

The politicians certainly have a hand in it. But overall I’d say the general public is still very “Corona-crazy”. Just need to look at the lines for testing centres in Sydney over the last few days. Yes, a lot of them were for travel, but there were plenty of nutjobs who have worked themselves up into a fit over what has proven to be nothing more than a mild cold.

3.75 hour wait in 35°C heat for a pointless test to make Anna happy. 62 hours til check in closes hope results are back in time. They closed the line at 4pm, staff leave at 6pm (in 25 mins and i still see about 150 people outside, reckon more will miss out).

Hope the family have left me some xmas dinner

That'll teach COVID not to come back.

I don't really care what the politicians say, I just find it scary that they say it because there are people in the community who listen & believe it.
It's scary that the politicians also don't care what they say. We're devolving down to having exclusively lowest common denominator politics and unfortunately, I can't see any circuit breaker around the corner.
Movement between States is now a matter of what best panders to the voter base. Opening before Xmas is an obvious example. Really bad timing if reducing spread was the objective, but really good timing to keep the electorate on-side.

Let’s be clear here - opening before Christmas has been great at seeding all of the ‘new to Covid’ states rapidly and very deeply which quite honestly may turn out to be the best thing ever in terms of keeping our domestic borders open - for good.

Absolutely. Have a look a this stuff which Qld Health Minister was flogging big time today, with a straight face. Have a COVID preparedness plan and a COVID grab bag in case the omicrons attack. Nobody has ever told me to write up a plan about what to do if I have a heart attack, or a stroke. FFS.

Welcome, have a great time. You will find that the locals still regard fellow Australians as fellow Australians.

Make sure you’ve packed your COVID grab bag before doing any of these things.

cheers skip
Having just read the readiness plan, and details of the COVID-Ready kit (Not grab bag as you call it) it actually looks like common sense. And I am always a fan of promoting common sense. :)
