Australian state border restrictions

NSW/VIC might well hold the line but lots of people are put off travelling at the moment by the media stories and the threat of quarantine or waiting days for test results if "pinged"

This is why I rebooked Melbourne rather than Tasmania, much to the annoyance of my parents.

Now just need the Ashes to actually take most of today rather than England collapsing. Have Moulin Rouge tomorrow to look forward to.

Load on the flight down VA812 on Monday 27th was 139 pax, 8J.

So SA have coughped themselves again with restrictions that will mean lots of hospitality businesses will simply close. Anna is not giving way about PCR tests, despite the problems it’s causing to testing in nsw. Tasmania is paralysed. Just a complete shambles. The only hope is that Victoria and NSWhold the line on opening up.
Will populations begin to foment?

As I started to see around me months ago and now literally all the time there is basically gentle civil disobedience happening everywhere. From people not checking in to forwarding modified each other ‘test results’ texts to get across borders etc etc There’s whole reddits dedicated to it 😂

I think there would be more vocal opposition if there was more heavy handed policing of the restrictions. Hopefully they can avoid this as the current restriction levels are basically optional guideline right now and if you want to comply it’s really up to you.

I don’t blame people at all for sticking to VIC/NSW/ACT right now but the other states are slowly slowly getting there.

- TAS no longer contact tracing or publishing casual contacts and not zapping planes out of the sky anymore - just ‘low risking’ them
- All SA’s arrival testing vanished plus the pre departure test is an ‘optional’ RAT tick the box
- QLD making noises about moving to RAT imminently. It will happen, our new CHO isn’t an idiot, just has to navigate QLD Health and a jumpy Premier

PS you are exempt from testing now for a couple of months right ;)

Hazzard lambasting Palaczuk as passive aggressive for delaying using RAT until Jan 1
He is right, travellers can test PCR neg but a few days later can be PCR pos after crossing the border. And traveller PCR adding to PCR queues.

But Hazzard can push the issue by mandating PCR only for symptomatics, and close contacts. However people would get angry at him because without PCR they can’t holiday interstate

SYD T3 much busier today than this time last year, thankfully QF were policing the premium queue at security.

Whilst printing my bag tag overhead more than one group lamenting their pcr results were not back yet and deciding whether to risk flying and hope they come through in the 4 hours from check-in to landing.

The SMS i received wouldn't help anyone if forwarded, no name or dob, just negative and a link to download result where you needed to validate details and provide medicare details. So depends what provider did your test.

Couldn't he mandate that no negative results will be available within 72 hours. They effectively aren't anyway. That would be an aggressive passive push back.

Tasmania is paralysed.
Really??? What utter nonsense. I'm going to the Taste of Summer food and beverage festival on the Hobart waterfront today, then going to check out the finish off the Sydney-Hobart yacht race.

People getting tested as required; bit of a delay but no biggie. Friend of mine got one yesterday and results in this morning. How's that for paralysed?

Shops are pretty full; great mask compliance.

I'm not sure where you live but you may care to get real experience in a state before you declare it 'paralysed' and not rely on AFF doomsayers. Here in Tas we are still pretty normal, with masks indoors.

But that would be putting even more pressure on the PCR system to improve performance from 6days to 3days.😀

And then why stick his neck out if he is already achieving his own passive aggressiveness (by not jumping up and down at his own system) while pointing the finger at AP.

NSW should just ban travel testing from all NSW Health operated sites It would force QLD’s hand.

I just drove through surfers paradise and there was queue of about 100 people lined up to be tested in the rain. If that’s the number willing to line up in the rain, how many actually need to be tested and yet the system has still collapsed. Yet QLD still expects other states to get results within 72 hours.

No - even though I’m recovered Tasmania required me to go get a PCR and then if it was positive make a doctors appointment and get a letter stating I am recovered.

I suspect hang up and call again would have got a different answer.

Most GPs wont see anyone with a positive PCR, and for those without a regular GP will be quite difficult to get an appointment for clearance. Health department really ought to be providing these certs to everyone who is isolating at home and part of home care program.

How will the states check RAT results? I am assuming a DIY would not be acceptable so woukd still need to find a lab providing them?

I have a certificate but Tasmania seemed disinterested in that.

friend in UK says people are using RAT tests to get into nightclubs. They do a test and load the number into the NHS system and say it's negative (it's matched with the device number) and they get a certificate to say they are negative. Noone actually checks if it is negative or not - you don't have to upload a photo or anything

So, are the rapid tests now kept on the same shelf as the Ad-Blue? Are they readily available in the numbers needed, or is this just another mandate without the supply backup that it needs.

By paralysed, I meant their response by maintaining the requirements of PCR tests to enter from NSW & VIC. Moreover the sudden jettisoning of contact tracing seems to indicate that the systems aren’t coping, hence paralysis.

I have been in northern Tasmania over Christmas
