Australian state border restrictions

Even though I was at home throughout this pandemic, I don't think I will ever get over how the country fell apart into bickering states. I never even heard the term "Queenslander" used much except for State of Origin and a type of house. I always identified as an Australian and here was the Aussie passport being virtually worthless. People stranded for months on end, I can't imagine what that was like. AFAIK Americans were Americans, not Caifornians, Texans, Oklahomans, etc. Canadians not British Columbians, Albertans. I can't think of any country that was more divided than Australia.

I don't know if Australia will ever feel like a united country again.

And Australians overseas were just “rich people” who didn’t deserve our assistance. Despite us once being amongst the most travelled folk on earth.

This has brought out a side I didn’t realise we truly had. When the dust settles, I can’t see myself calling this country home for a lot longer.

Guardian reporting that with the exception of WA, RATs or any other type of test will no longer be required to cross state borders with an announcement from TAS and QLD this week.
I might go back to Queensland soon!

A status run to Queensland and back would be a bit tempting, but I don’t think I will done one just yet.

Oh I already decided for them about pre-testing tourism travel and made my own choices 😂.

It was the biggest waste of time, unenforceable policy. What a waste of money and precious testing resource.

All the state governments that implemented it should hang their heads in shame. Glad it’s gone.

Im supposed to go to Melbourne tomorrow but several friends there have messaged me this evening saying there is a a rumour Andrews is about to implement a lockdown tomorrow - anyone else heard anything about this?

I dont want to go if I have to be locked in a hotel room, Id sooner just cancel.

No one at all from WA bothered to attend. Must have got the time wrong - time difference perhaps? And I guess testing rapidly is illegal in WA still right?
It wasn't a matter of not being "bothered" to attend. Only if an Acting Premier has been in the role for a good deal of time are they allowed to attend. Not when only very short term relief in the role.

Dan is on holidays and his deputy is also off.
Jacinta Allan who is in charge currently refuted any claims this morning of a lockdown but didn’t rule out some restrictions coming into play

Normal practice is that "acting" means exactly that. What rules are you referring to?

Elective surgery has been halted again.

I'm not seeing indications of a lockdown on The Age and Herald Sun websites.

I would think that extending current measures such as work from home beyond 12 January would be more likely than going back into lockdown.

Have they been reading the Daily Mail? :) Nicole Kidman is also pregnant for the 57th time and Keith just cheated on her for the 17th time.

WA at the national cabinet

Just wondering why WA wasn’t at nashy cab?

-Independent Republic?
Hi Independent,

Scott Morrison was asked about this and says national cabinet is only for leaders, or heads of departments within jurisdictions, neither of which were available from WA.

Which is why WA Acting Premier Roger Cook gave his press conference during the meeting.

Short-term acting leaders are not able to attend. James Merlino, who acted in Daniel Andrews place in Victoria for several months last year when he was injured, was able to go as he was a longer-term replacement.

"One of the helpful things about national cabinet is people sit around the table and we have been through a lot together. We understand the history. We understand the decisions we have made before, the discussions we had," Mr Morrison said.
