Australian state border restrictions

Not a bad start. But for me the holy grail is no preflight tests for double or triple jabbed. Omicron is spreading anyways. But the triple vaxxed are very unlikely to clog up the hospitals. .
My guess is in due course it will be no pre-flight testing for everyone regardless of vax status.

WA at the national cabinet

Hi Independent,

Scott Morrison was asked about this and says national cabinet is only for leaders, or heads of departments within jurisdictions, neither of which were available from WA.

Which is why WA Acting Premier Roger Cook gave his press conference during the meeting.

Short-term acting leaders are not able to attend. James Merlino, who acted in Daniel Andrews place in Victoria for several months last year when he was injured, was able to go as he was a longer-term replacement.

"One of the helpful things about national cabinet is people sit around the table and we have been through a lot together. We understand the history. We understand the decisions we have made before, the discussions we had," Mr Morrison said.
Hmmm, but as someone apparently living in a democracy, I'd like to know what the rules are, rather than an opinion ventured by the current Prime Minister. Why should an acting Premier be treated any differently to an actual Premier?

BTW, I realise that comments on acting Premiers could be considered to be political but it is by no means off topic. Currently border restrictions are altering daily. At the heart of the debate is the group called National Cabinet. Who can, and cannot, contribute here is very relevant to the discussion.

It’s been the ‘rule’ about National Cabinet since Day 1. Essentially only substantive PM, Premiers and Chief Ministers.

The only Acting exception was for Victoria in light of the long term leave of the Vic Premier.

No opposition leaders, no other Acting (eg Nationals leader who is Deputy PM and Acting PM sometimes for up to a month), no change when in caretaker mode.

There have been a number of occasions over the past 2 years where a political leader was unavailable and there is no proxy either appointed/nominated for a one-off or by being Acting. I guess their Chief of Staff would be First Minister Department Head is (Edit) allowed to attend as observer.

It’s also a background reason for the swift resignation of the former NSW Premier and ‘party room vote’ for a replacement

Regardless as WA now has established community transmission they will probably be more interested in a couple of weeks what will be happening…

Thanks for that. I must confess to not having followed national cabinet very closely. It seemed sus at the start and the "rules" you describe above are not reassuring. Junta might be a better description!

Yes, but staged. Perhaps triple vaxxed no PCR by 1/1/23, no PCR for anyone (vaxxed/unvaxxed) by 1/1/2024. Hopefully I am being overly conservative here.

Preflight PCR a deal breaker for me. Not holding much hope, but no PCR preflight by August this year would be great. Wroclaw Speedway end of August, more than happy to attend that.

Anyone have any other guesses as to this?

Normal practice is that "acting" means exactly that. What rules are you referring to?
This is a direct quote from the PM during his press conference following the National Cabinet meeting. From his own lips.

Edit: I see HappyFlyer has already given the PM’s reply in full detail and further history.

I'm in Wroclaw right now!

Would not want to spread Covid to the LGM

Now ScoMo has made it clear, no one, not even LGM can enter Australia without an exemption
Not sure about LGM, but definitely not TSM, at least not if there's a social media storm about their exemptions...
