Australian state border restrictions

Let's do the time warp again. Feels like March 2020. How depressing.

Not sure how the airlines make it through this. Stand downs en-masse, presumably.

Most of my friends are on long term stand-down, with quite a few having realised/decided that they won't ever get an opportunity to get back. Actually, in many ways, leaving people on permanent stand-down is a perfect out for the company, as it hasn't retrenched them, and so manages to avoid all of the financial responsibilities of doing so.

QLD presser later today, 1100 instead of the usual 0900.

Good indication NSW border is closing, Brisbane lockdown, or both. I'd say the first is very likely, the second is 50/50.
Interesting as NSW always does an 11am presser!

Have they found other jobs? At the Hornsby Hospital Vaccination Centre in Sydney, one of the clerical staff there told me she was an ex VA Flight attendant :( I've heard there are A380 pilots driving forklifts at Woolies :(

When you say "you", I have, as have my wife, daughter and son. We are not laggards.
I am over 60 and not a laggard either - but won't be having my second AZ until early August - I had my first as soon as I could once "2A" became eligible.

Given the timeframe I won't have the benefit of maximum AZ efficacy until the beginning of September.

So they will be too old to fly passenger planes in a year or two and thus forced to retire?

Tasmania, with no community cases ( for about a year) and record test numbers yesterday, has just followed WA'S. locking down of Perth and Peel by declaring then red zones and banning travel from there, including Tasmanians, without an exemption. Also floating the idea of masks for edit outside. Announcement this afternoon. Premier advising people's not to travel interstate.

I’m watching press conference now. Timely reminder to wear masks in airports for your own safety. Also admonishing the jurisdiction that allowed Australia citizens to go to India and then return. Very strong views on hotel quarantine in major cities, which basically sparked the state border closures. Very few borders left open apart from VIC/TAS.

Yep, seems to be the NSW situation has not deteriorated like they expected which is why the NSW border is still open. Apparently they were waiting for the NSW presser so they probably would have closed it if numbers surged.

Yep, we're going into lockdown from 6pm tonight until Friday 6pm: Queensland plunged into lockdown

There goes our 4 day camping holiday starting Thursday. We are planning on being packed and ready to leave at 6.01pm Friday if it doesn't get extended. Putting up tents in the dark - arrgghh, it had better not rain...

Varying reasons. But, for people flying the A380 it won't be a year or two. The 380s won't be back, irrespective of what AJ has said recently. The people flying them will need to get slots on other aircraft, that also aren't flying at the moment, and on which there aren't any slots, even if they were flying. In more normal times, this would be a lead in to retrenchments, but by standing people down forever, the company avoids the economic effects of that, basically bypassing all of the contracts.
I suppose AP going to Tokyo for the Olympics will be considered absolutely essential travel though.
There's a petition asking for Jeff Bezos to not be allowed to reenter the atmosphere after his flight, perhaps people would like to put an addition of that re Anna.

Assuming they go ahead with A350, I would assume moving the A380 crews to A350 would be the logical path - would you agree?

VIC is moving all QLD LGA’s below from orange to red from tonight.

VIC closes to Perth.

Victoria brings in COVID border restrictions for Queensland and WA locations

By Kathy Lord

The local government areas (LGA) of Perth and Peel in WA and 11 LGAs in southeast Queensland from Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast, Townsville, Palm Island and Magnetic Island will become red zones under Victoria’s travel permit system from 1:00am on Wednesday, Professor Brett Sutton said.

Victorians scheduled to leave before that cut-off they can still enter the state on their orange zone permits.

Those who leave after are subject to the red zone permit rules meaning they must undertake 14 days of quarantine.

So basically VIC and TAS are the only states open to each other?! If it wasn’t so serious it would be crazy.

Have 4 weeks leave in August - booked 3 weeks in Queensland, seriously considering to go through and cancel all of it over the next few days, and just book what's open when the time comes. Instead of being bitterly disappointed of not being able to undertake plans.

Probably just take two weeks off as well, stuff using my hard earned annual leave sitting at home. Rant/frustration over.
