Australian state border restrictions

Has anyone heard whether this is likely to change from WA into SA anytime soon that you have to self isolate for 2 weeks and have three COVID tests. Many of the people travelling across the Nullarbor are going to be grey nomads and there isn't many places they can get to by Day 1 to have their COVID test and

Western Australia

Restrictions

From 12.01am 11 July 2021, any person arriving from Western Australia is permitted to enter South Australia without restriction as long as they have not been in specified locations in QLD, NSW, ACT in the past 14 days.

Essential travellers, returning South Australian residents, people genuinely relocating, and people escaping Domestic Violence arriving from Victoria who have been in a restricted area (specified locations in QLD, NSW, ACT) in the past 14 days, will be subject to Level 4 requirements:

  • COVID-19 test on day 1, 5, & 13.
  • Self-quarantine for 14 days (from the day of arrival).
  • Must wear a face mask (covering mouth and nose) at any time that they come into contact with the public for a period of 14 days after their arrival in South Australia.
Essential Travellers must self-quarantine in accordance with their class of Essential Traveller.

Commercial Transport and Freight categories are excused from the COVID-19 testing regime if they can produce evidence of a COVID-19 or a negative COVID-19 result in the last 7 days.

All travellers coming to South Australia must first complete a Cross Border Travel Registration. Travellers must complete a separate Cross Border Travel Registration for each person in the travelling party including all children.

It is confusing, but I read it as from about 11½ hours ago there is no mandatory 2 week/3 test regime for those entering SA from WA unless they have been in a restricted area (specified locations in QLD, NSW, ACT) in the past 14 days.

Thanks - I thought it was just me but I was sure I read that somewhere too but it's not on the SA Health or Police website. My brother is out in the middle of WA and his phone makes calls and if he is very pushed he could read or send a text so I'm being his travel agent.

The covid crisis may hasten WA moves to secede.
WA wants us the be "naice" to the Chinese and will continue to hassle the feds , using their contribution to
national social support as a stick.
What fun that would be.. effective Chinese ownership of the west, no more royalties and heavy breathing just nearby…..

Dan Andrews saying there's currently an AHPPC meeting occurring and post that (in approx 1 hour) they expect to make a decision about the border.

He implied it could be a national decision - which means all of NSW borders would be closed. I assumed QLD were going to close any day now anyway, so it makes sense.

Interesting to see what happens to ACT

A stupid move that costs far more than it 'saves', with adverse effects including small businesses closing, mental illness rising, part timers and casual staff suffering, suicides increasing over time and less investment and hence fewer resultant jobs than if we had open economies.

But the politicians never talk about these, at least not in Victoria.

It's far from 'we're all in this together' nonsense: those in the public sector are rewarded: many in the private sector are hit hard economically.

It's a virus. We can't 'keep ourselves safe'. Have to live with it!

WA is rapidly reaching the point at which nobody else cares what they do..... By default any hard border with NSW would probably have to include all of the neighbouring states too, and last time I looked, that was Qld, Vic, SA, and ACT.
I mentioned McGowans appalling attitude through out the pandemic in another thread

WA should change their name as they clearly don’t want to be the western part of part of any country

When VIC hit triple figures it was closed to all other states, so it is not surprising this would happen now. I think even NSW would have closed to itself under these circumstances.

Obviously the AHPPC meeting today didnt declare the whole of NSW a hotspot so Vic are going it alone.

I don't think they'll be alone, but it just wasn't sanctioned by the federal government (pretty clear after the federal CHO's comments).

I'm sure Queensland will follow, and ACT possibly as well to prevent itself being locked out of other states.

Because there is zero justifiction to declare a hotpot in areas with no cases.

There are movement restrictions on the areas that do have cases (Sydney Metro) not being allowed to travel to regions except for essential work and only then with a negative covid tests, so didnt make sense to make places like Bathurst or Ballina a hotspot.

I don’t see why they would, given there have been no cases or contact locations outside the Sydney Metro area. Unless some intel out of today’s AHPPC meeting.

I don’t understand why Vic would declare all of NSW (and ACT) a hotspot. Talk about jumping at shadows.

cheers skip

I agree, but I guess they see it as inevitable there will be a leak into regional NSW once the cases get up to triple figures.

In fairness NSW closed to VIC once it hit triple figures.

I don't have a huge problem with it as long as the border bubbles continue.
