Australian state border restrictions

Does anyone have intel whether passengers from Melb are being screened on arrival at Brisbane airport?
I landed in Brisvegas Tuesday this week, no one greets the plane to check, I was able to move freely to baggage belts. About 4 Police Officer doing random checks as I waited. I was asked if I have a border pass to which I had to show, then I was asked if I got tested 72hrs prior to arrival, I said yes and went to show him on my phone and he replied no problem and did not as to see it, his last question was "are you here longer then 5 days and if so you need a further test" After that they move on to ask another person randomly. Overall no dramas on arrival

At this point NSW should just mark all travel PCR tests as negative.

Hahaha brilliant. Merry Xmas 😂

Similar reports from our staff, people not necessarily being met at gate but they had a couple of people moving round the airport randomly. Some people asked were just seeing off family. Border pass checked but not PCR test.

Hopefully we see these border restriction tests evaporate soon. Or move to a rapid at home test self done, at worst.

Mr Morrison said National Cabinet had also agreed to reconsider testing requirements for interstate travel.

He said testing systems were being strained by people who were not symptomatic and were only getting tested to be allowed to travel.

He said state leaders had been asked to consider whether testing for interstate travel could be replaced with rapid antigen testing, or dropped altogether.

"There was a positive discussion, and the medical expert panel will give further advice whether testing was required at all for travel," Mr Morrison said.

Should be RAT only for travel - only problem is there are none available!

PM just said it’s 20-25%

Yes, heard that. And that number is more consistent with the numbers coming into Qld, virtually all of which would have been tested. Someone’s pants are on fire.

On the travel test nonsens, it was just noted that 17-20/1,000 (?) close contacts test positive, 1/1000 of travellers. And Prof Kelly noted that travel testing is contrbuting to the breakdown of TTIQ.

Residual issue is the tendency of premiers to be bloody minded.

Looks like RAT might be the way forward. Feds stumping up RAT cash???

National cabinet waiting on expert advice on whether tests are required for interstate travel

"We've all seen the terrible queues and the long waits people have had. Some 20 to 25 per cent of those people waiting are not symptomatic, they're not a close or casual contact. They just want to travel to another state," Mr Morrison says.
"This is putitng unneccessary pressure of the system.
"There was a very good discussion about the public health orders in other states, it's not just Queensland, that are imposed on people.
"There was a positive discussion and the medical expert panel will give further advice on whether testing is required at all for travel, or if we can move to the more simple measure of RAT (rapid antigen testing) which will reduce those queues."

no RAT available, hahaha have you left your bunker lately........every pharmacist has them, every one of them.

I hear even Coles & WW has them, but I haven't been or looked there for them there.

Maybe it’s 10% QLd bound travel and the remaining 10-15% is for other States/Territory (eg those who said they won’t go to Qld and stuck to their word)

TTIQ....Is NSW Health even tracing?

You’ve verified supply in every single pharmac_ in Australia?

I would say availability depends on your location in Australia.

So the guy at the testing station has no idea how it's funded, but you do.....do you know the guys name, background or their knowledge base of that guys at the testing station that knows nothing, oh wise one you??

I think we all know it's the gov paying for everything, & in turn you & me.

Seriously, get over yourself.

WA re-introduces hard borders with Tasmania and NT

Meanwhile, WA is re-introducing hard borders with Tasmania and the Northern Territory, meaning entry into the state is prohibited without an exemption.

It means, for the first time in more than a year, WA will have a hard border with every state and territory.

The border rule changes come into force on Boxing Day.

Creates issues for the testing staff who have to ask why a person is getting tested. People will just lie.

Not necessarily as if you claim symptoms you have to iso and if your pinged as a close contact you need to show the ping and iso regardless. So lying doesnt help you travel.

Put a disclaimer on the test result from a federal level stating this test is not for interstate travel purposes, and if caught using this a $5,000 fine payable by state premier + $5,000 fine payable by individual traveller. Must be private practice COVID test. This'll change the states attitude quick smart. Acknowledge tough on family visit's though.

Not it just punishes people living NSW, Vic and ACT and will have zero impact on the states requiring the test.

I'm supposed to fly on the 28th, none of the private Histopath test sites (except the one at SYD international) are open on 25, 26 or 27th Dec so not possible to get a paid express private test.

The state run test sites are the only ones open on Christmas day, and only a handful of private drives through open on Boxing day (26) and boxing day public holiday (27) none that are guaranteeing results in under 72 hours, because the samples dont get collected until closing then go elsewhere for processing. Laverty is the slowest of all the providers.

So only option is to go the free state PCR and they will be busier than usual given no private alternatives, but at least those at hospitals process pathology on site so best option.

There is zero reason Qld cant accept RAT test now, they have been available for over a year and were used extensively at howard springs for staff tests so plenty of local data.
