Avianca Brazil Amigo status match

Okay! I got to take my piece of A4 paper for a spin in the wild today. Here's how it went.

Note that I don't have the 06 number on my booking, as I want to credit miles to SQ. This makes things much more difficult than they need to be, but I don't see a way around it short of just writing off the miles. I did ask about using the different FQTS/FQTV fields on the phone, but apparently it couldn't be done. I can't seriously be the only one with this problem!

Arrived at the SAS check-in in CPH this morning. The priority line dragon basically just asked me if it was a *G card because she didn't seem to get what I was showing her. I say yes, proceed to front of line. So far so good.

At the front of the queue, the check-in agent does his thing, enters my number into the system, reminds me that I have an SQ number in there already and prints my BP/bag tags. He fails to put a priority tag on it, so I ask him and he does. Weird, but I just assume he forgot.

I come back five minutes later to check my parents' baggage through with a new agent in the priority line and she also fails to put priority tags on. Is this an SAS thing? I'm starting to get the impression it's not something they proactively do for non-EuroBonus/Plus/Business pax.

Next, it's the fast track security queue. Denied. Apparently, it's not available to *G but "I can use the lounge once I'm through regular security". Thanks. The signage does have Star Alliance branding on it so go figure.

Arrive at the lounge (which is beautiful – goodness, do those Scandinavians know how to piece together a room!) and the agent checks her list of carriers, does some typing and manually opens the little gate for me. Success.

Was late to the boarding gate, so missed priority boarding, but I'd assume the temporary card would be enough. Fast track security and lounge gates are all automated so you really want the number in your booking. Boarding gates (in my experience) don't bother checking status and will let you through regardless.

Hope I covered it all – happy to answer any questions! There are a number of quirks that seem specific to SAS, but as a first time *G I don't really know the norms. I'll be travelling with TK (ARN-IST) in Y next week so will have a chance to try it all with them. That said, if they'd let me pay to upgrade, I'll be taking that ;)

Put my application in December 4 got a email yesterday to congratulate me on a card upgrade to Star Alliance Gold but NO mention of a card will probably use it next month , what is the process without a card ? Do you just give your name and number at check in and the Lounge?

Also I forgot to mention ( previous post )where does it say about expiry date, I have been though all my information can't even find what level I amGetting a bit confused now.did mention expiry on the email, look forward to some of your answers.

That's a worry. This is how it should go ....

On this site http://www.avianca.com.br/ I 'login' (using Amigo member number and password ) - you can login from the welcome e-mail as well.

I have Google toolbar automatically translate the page, so then, at top right above the search box it says "Hello, RooFlyer, (Get my account)" or, originally: Olá, RooFlyer (Acessar minha conta)

Then, at left, "Print Card" ("Imprimir Cartão")

It brings up an image of the card, but rather than printing it, taking a screenshot and printing the image seems to work better. Laminate it and use as your card to show at lounges etc. The status expiry is on the card image when it comes up, as above.

Good luck!

At the very top of the Avianca web-page, to the left of the "Search" entry-field, there's a small Brazilian flag - clicking on this and choosing the American flag instead gives you the web-page in English (albeit in beta version)......... Hope this helps!

On a separate note, I was matched to *A Gold by Avianca from VA WP in late 2015. I used it for the first time on SQ for ADL-SIN-LHR in December, crediting to VFF but using Avianca for status benefits. In the ADL lounge, I double-checked to make sure that the lounge angel knew I was *A Gold - she called through (presumably to her supervisor) to let them know that there was an additional *A Gold member on the flight that wouldn't be on their original list, and about 10 minutes later I was upgraded to J on a full flight :):)..... and to make the day even better, we flew over Uluru en-route, and the pilot got ATC approval for a minor detour so that the passengers could see it properly :)

Ummm that's an amazing story...

What a day! :)

Sent my details in October, still no status match. Matching from QF Gold. Will have to keep trying...

Hello,

Did you receive my email?

Can you please post me a physical card?

Thank you

And then it was 48 hours for them to respond. Perhaps my original google translate wasn't too crash hot!

Another report for you.

Flew TK Y yesterday and had a fairly flawless experience. That said, it was probably because the check-in agent at ARN was insistent on putting it onto my BP and I just went along with it. I reminded her I wanted it credited to SQ, but she still did it. Hoping it will still credit properly.

Anyway, it meant accessing SAS lounge and priority boarding was easy. Priority bag tags worked well (although I may have had to reminder her, again).

Part of me is almost okay if it gets credited to O6, and I'll try and get another 4 credited so I can get a card sent. But I'll have to say goodbye to 1370 SQ miles though... :(

Am a member of about 6 *A airlines but don't fly with them much just been matched to Avianca, which would be the best airline to credit points too? Aegean was a good one a few years ago, any suggestions? Thanks.

Adding a little report on use of my recently matched O6 status... I booked a return from AKL-WLG on NZ, and was able to select Avianca Brasil from the list of *A partners and enter my membership number.

Although I had paid for Seat+Bag, which I think comes with standard seat selection, adding the O6 Membership opened up all but the first row or two of seats, at booking, which was nice.

Premium check in would have been available at AKL, but we opted for self check in, and just threw our bags on the belt at premium bag drop. BP showed 'O6 *G' on it.

No questions about O6 at all in the lounge, as all I needed to do was scan my BP, which beeped and set off a green light for the attendant who was watching, and in we went.

Priority boarding, and boarding by row was announced, but failed terribly. Boarding was surprisingly civilised, regardless, and everyone was able to stow luggage without drama.

I guess if I had wanted to credit the flights to another partner like SQ, then it might have been more complicated, but I don't really have alliance to anyone in the alliance, and don't really plan to. I'm happy to just credit to whoever matches my OW status and make it easier to get the benefits for the few flights I take outside of the OW.

Couldn't be happier, at this point!

Cheers,
Matt.

Something remarkable just happened:

I registered for the program when it first offered the status match. I then emailed them a copy of my QF card and asked for status match. I later received an email that they could not find me in their system and asked for further details.

It downed on me that when I joined I had merely joined their website and had forgotten to tick the box that would enrol me in the Amigo Program. Bummer...

I logged back into the web site and tried to tick the box, only to be presented with a cryptic error message. I tried many times, using different browsers, on different computers, to no avail. I then tried to sign up with a new email address, but it also failed... many times, many browsers, many computers...

By this stage it was early December.

I sent them an email explaining the problem, with a couple of screenshots of the error message. I got an auto-reply that the promo had finished.

So I thought that was the end of it. Oh well, I thought to myself...

I got an email a few days ago asking me for some detail so that they can enrol me in the program manually. I sent the information (the same information I was entering on the web site so I was not overly concerned with the possibility of phishing, but nevertheless I made sure I typed in the email address myself rather that just hitting reply).

I was thinking, in the off chance they enrol me in the program, I will have to ask for status match next time they have a promo.

I just received 3 consecutive emails: one informing me of my brand new Amigo membership number, one containing a temporary password, and the last one informing me...drum roll please... that I was now Diamond in the program! Woohoo!

I logged in, and after changing the temporary password, checked my temporary card and found out the status is valid till March 2018! Double woohoo!

Very happy with their service. I am actually inclined to credit at least 5 flights in order to receive the card.

I spent 40 mins with an agent to sort out my status match. Unfortunately no-one in the frequent flyer department spoke english, so he translated all of my comments to the frequent flyer team. It worked well in the end.

Bear that in mind if you have to call them :)
