Booked SYD-HND for 2 on ANA J through LM website (80k + 169USD).

Does anyone know how to select seats through the ANA website? I've followed their instructions on the reservation number and name inputs and it still comes up with an error.

Yes, I have, several in fact.

1. Make sure you select international reservation. By default it goes to domestic as you go to ANA home page.
2. Your reservation number is the same as LM reservation number. LM may send you a ANA reservation number, that's the old one. Now ANA and LM both use Amadeus so same number.
3. Did you put your middle name at reservation? If you do, you must put middle name and first name as one word. Eg, John Doe Rae becomes Johndoe Rae.

Hope that helps.

Thanks VAG newbie!
Did all that and still can't get through. I also tried using the e-ticket number (starts with 202) instead of the reservation number.
Guess i'll have to give them a call to see what's happening.

How about this? If you've put in your middle name, so instead of putting full middle name, just the first initial. Eg. Instead of Johndoe Rae, try Johnd Rae. I know occasionally airlines do that.

That's why I never put in middle name now.

Got it to work now. I had to put a space between first name and middle name, even though the example on ANA help page shows otherwise.
So it is First name = John Doe . Last Name = Rae

How long until this trick gets corrected?!

It might be ok for a while! It doesn't really work for the reverse routing in terms of savings... you'd need to fly to HNL to take advantage, negating any benefits.

I'd reckon this will be so infrequently used it'll fly under the radar.

The bigger miracle here, I think, is the availability of the long haul UA J.

Might have to move these posts back to the discussion thread.

After a few weeks of checking flights out of every hub in India I have ended up with this for end of August 2016.

MAA-SINx-BKKx-PER all in J. 57,000 points, $25 redemption fee, $31.61 in taxes (USD). First leg is on AI's 787, the rest are on TG.

Being in PER really limits you to the 23:59 TG flight from BKK if there is nothing available on SQ (which there usually doesn't seem to be).

The screenshot method does have its advantages. I can't sleep on planes, even in J/F so try for day time flights.

I got

9 Aug BNE to BKK - arrive BKK at 8pm
10 Aug BKK to BCN - depart BKK at 10.30am

Still @ 85,000 miles

Also, usual screenshot method is that they send you an itinerary and then someone calls 24-48 hours later for the taxes. I got the call without the itinerary, she confirmed everything over the phone. As for credit card details, she just took the number and two minutes later all confirmed - none of the interpreting that usually goes on. Much easier, and noted it was a girl rather than the usual guy that calls

Data point: Call at 10.30pm Queensland time from USA

Excellent!!! 8 hour layover rule doesn't apply! New USDM!

Since when do TG fly to BCN?!
